I guess technology is out pacing me. I’m lost at how I could get a free stream through a data plan. -— Maybe I just can’t.
LOL technology does change fast, but you will get hang of it...It took me a while to figure out what I wanted...and I ended up with ROKU and DirectTVNow...that was best for me, however, for you, may be something different.
Do you have cable or internet at your house for your TV or your computer?
If you have internet (which you probably do since you are on FR), you should be able to set up a wireless router, then you can connect your phone(s), computer(s), and ROKU** to it. I don’t think most internet plans charge for data usage—there is a monthly fee based on your region and what speed you want—there are different levels. I have an intermediate level which works for several devices to be connected...Usually 2 or 3 computers and the ROKU TV.
Your data plan is associated with your cell phone—Those can be unlimited or pay based on usage. I have unlimited; however my phone and tablet would allow me or a guest to save on data usage by using my internet WiFi when I am in the house.
As I said before, DirectTVNOW can be used on ROKU TV, Wii Game station (maybe some other play stations), Tablets, laptops and phones.
We are saving money, have a lot more viewing options, and are very happy with our switch.
Hope this helps :
**I have ROKU devices on 2 TVs; one is an older TV (and that needed an extra adapter) and one is newer that did not need an adapter. There are YouTube Videos on Roku installation and types FYI.
Pluto(free) is an app on the ROKU that offers many free channels that are 'free stream.'
Conversely, Netflix or HULU or Amazon Prime.... are not ‘free stream,’ precisely because you have to pay for them.
