A crucial non-interference, non-helmet-to-helmet call cost the Saints a spot in the Super Bowl and provided a crushing loss to end the season for a second straight year as the Rams won with a field goal in overtime 26-23.
After the game, Saints head coach Sean Payton said the NFL head of officials admitted they had missed the call, saying that it was not only pass interference, but a helmet to helmet hit. If the call had been made, the Saints could have killed the clock and tried a chip shot field goal...

LOL
there is a picture of the biased ref looking right at the play. My viewership has declined over the last two years but i did watch the games on Sunday. Worst non call in NFL history. should’ve been multiple flags raining down on that play. Does give one pause as to why every ref buried their flag in their pocket.
Then there is the phantom roughing the passer call on Tom Brady. without the call, it is 4th down and Patriots are punting. instead they go on to score.
Refs controlling the game has gotten worse and worse over the years.
This will be first Super Bowl i wont watch. How can i justify watching a game that does not include the real winners of the championship games?
How can i reward bad behavior by giving them my time?
What happen in the saints game was as close to a rigged game that i have ever witnessed.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the Upstairs both can review Helmet to Helmet hits at anytime.
I was wondering about that. They may have just not had the right angle.
“Then there is the phantom roughing the passer call on Tom Brady. without the call, it is 4th down and Patriots are punting. instead they go on to score”
Very likely cost the game for the Chiefs. Patriots drive was halted on that play.
Replays weren’t even close. A very bad call.
Once the Steelers had blown calls in 4 games in a row, apologies from the league bad. When asked about it in the weekly news conference Cowher said his job was to get the team in a position where one bad call couldn’t cost his team the game. The Saints had plenty of opportunities throughout the game, including doing a much better job of time management on that drive (in gimme FG range, with the Rams on 2 timeout they threw twice, wrong call, run up the gut 3 times, make the Rams burn their time outs, give them no time). They were sputtering the whole game, including their OT possession.
Not sure with the NFL, they do in college
Given how many easy field goals have been missed this season, I would t consider anything a given when it comes to making one this season.
Yes, a blown call for sure. Still, I kept hearing how Payton had implored Saints fans all week to make as much noise as possible so as to disrupt the Rams ability to communicate and therefore execute. It sounds to me like he did not think he and his team could beat the Rams without help.
An ignorant comment like that is befitting of your screen name.......
You've only been here 5 months and you're already throwing out vulgar insults? Behavior like that is not appropriate for mature adults..........but then again, you're probably not one.
Classy, real classy.......sheesh!
For all the accolades he gets, Payton is a terrible play caller.
“There are people out there that dont know what theyre doing. Look at the GOP.”
Don’t ascribe to incompetence what can be more likely ascribed to a willful intent to hose the people they purport to represent.
The Rams and Pat’s deserve one another.
After visiting Australia, I've gotten into Cricket.
The Rams defensive player was obviously going after the ball, and the receiver interfered with the play. Where is the flag on the Rams?.....sounds like a Mueller charge.....
These comments are stupid. Cowher said that to avoid criticizing the ref's in public.
You play your heart out against a good team sometimes you eke out a win. It only takes one call to screw that pooch. Saying you should have won by more is asinine.
You won but the other team got elevated by the ref's due to democrat tactics. Sorry just no way the ref's all missed that call simultaneously
No, Cowher understood that a lot of random stuff happens in a game and to be a consistent winner you have to over come that.
The facts remain the Saints left points on the field in the first half, and had terrible play calls in that set of down. If that pass is caught it’s short of the first down and the player goes out of bounds and stops the clock. Without the PI it’s a TERRIBLE play call that puts them in the exact same position they landed in: didn’t burn enough clock, left the Rams plenty of time to time it back up. The Saints needed that call to rescue them from a bad series where they stopped the clocked twice FOR the Rams.
Why is the rams helmet so much bigger, when they connect, than the saints guys?
