A crucial non-interference, non-helmet-to-helmet call cost the Saints a spot in the Super Bowl and provided a crushing loss to end the season for a second straight year as the Rams won with a field goal in overtime 26-23.

After the game, Saints head coach Sean Payton said the NFL head of officials admitted they had missed the call, saying that it was not only pass interference, but a helmet to helmet hit. If the call had been made, the Saints could have killed the clock and tried a chip shot field goal...

NFL has been crooked for years. It’s basically the world’s most expensive reality TV show. Everything is scripted and the outcome is assured. They don’t care if any fans show up at the stadiums - the money is in TV and gambling.

Is there a video available that shows the position of the refs at the moment of the hit?

"Cannot challenge a non call. What do you challenge?"

It shouldn't have come to a challenge; it was a blatant brain-fart by the refs. The receiver was speared in the head well before the ball got there; it wasn't even close.

This missed call might change the rules for reviewing plays.

I watched it. I saw it. Someone asked why it wasn’t challenged. That’s what I was responding to.

I’m starting to think that pro football is as corrupt as pro boxing. Or pro baseball. Or pro basketball. Or pro cycling. Or pro ... anything.

Probably the same reason people "rubberneck" car accidents?

I agree.... and, it wasn’t the ONLY “missed call”.

They overlooked interference on the interception play. And, also in the previous drive in regulation... OBVIOUS PI on 3rd down.

The FIX was in..

Of course... I’m just a LITTLE biased, seeing as I purchased a future ticket on the Saints to win the SB... back in July. $50 at 22-1 odds. Damn...

A whole crew of refs need to be fired. A play this obvious usually has three flags flying in from different directions. Question is, was it intentional indifference? NFL and advertisers both wanted LA and New England

I agree. The NFL refs can determine who goes to the SuperBowl. Ever notice how those crucial calls always favor teams from big TV markets?

They didn’t even review the call upstairs.

Penaltys aren’t reviewable. The infraction was ignored, the refs all saw it. It was help LA time

challenge a bad call whether it was a penalty flag or not.

This Super Bowl is certainly tainted. Let the thugs kneel, make the big market Rams win. The WWE has more integrity than the NFL.

Well now enjoy those 5+ hour games when the NFL makes everything reviewable.

First down. Saints would have either scored a touchdown or run three more plays before the field goal and run out the clock. Refs on the take

they need to change the rule then. Coaches should be able to challenge a non-call (if there should have been one) as well as a bad call. Bad officiating should be a thing of the past in 2019 especially with camera quality in this day and age.

from the replay it looks like the Ram defender could have easily intercepted the ball.

If he was paying attention.

Horrible call though.

Bad calls are part of the game, just like bad blocking, drops from receivers, and a QB’s missed opportunities. Every person on that field is imperfect - that is part of the game.

A fault lies in the team’s inability to score on plays other than the said non-call, which allows the team and their fans to claim that they were robbed by poor officiating, when, if they were a better team and performed better, that call would not have mattered.

I got curious about there being a penalty for the helmet-to-helmet infraction that you mentioned. That appeared to be a legitimate football hit. So, I searched and found that there appears to be no rule against a helmet to helmet hit, as you claim. There is a law against lowering a head to use the helmet as a weapon:
https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/use-of-the-helmet/

If I’m wrong about the helmet penalty, please let me know.
