An investigation from the Intercepts Sam Biddle published Thursday alleged that owners of Ring security cameras may have been spied on by employees of the company, an allegation Ring denies. However, citing sources familiar with Rings privacy practices, the Intercept reported that employees who were reportedly granted highly privileged access were able to gain access to video recordings as well as to Ring cameras in- or outside an individuals home, depending on where the devices were positioned, using only that persons email address. Per the Intercept:
"Despite its mission to keep people and their property secure, the companys treatment of customer video feeds has been anything but, people familiar with the companys practices told The Intercept. Beginning in 2016, according to one source, Ring provided its Ukraine-based research and development team virtually unfettered access to a folder on Amazons S3 cloud storage service that contained every video created by every Ring camera around the world. This would amount to an enormous list of highly sensitive files that could be easily browsed and viewed. Downloading and sharing these customer video files would have required little more than a click."

“Ring provided its Ukraine-based research and development team virtually unfettered access”
No....Freakin’....Way
Ukraine is one of the most corruption riddled countries on earth. THAT is where you go? Was Mexico or Congo unavailable?
Amazon manages the NSA’s data centers. Would not surprise me if Amazon devices feed right into them.
Stick Internet-based cameras in your house, and you’ll get what you deserve.
If I were to do that, they’d ONLY be active when I’m not home.
I like the ring, but the advertisements are misleading. Your chance of scaring someone off or answering in a reasonable amount of time is just about non-existent even with a strong 4g signal.
Good to Know,,,
MAY have?
No.
That is not a Bug. That’s a Feature
Only if you cover the lens with electrical tape.
Aw jeez, Ukranetards... Just what everybody ordered. Dosvandaya, derps! Har!
"...internet-based cameras in the home..."
Coming soon: Ring Video Soapdish for shower security and the Ring Video Alarmclock so you can see whos been sleeping in your bed!
“Only if you cover the lens with electrical tape.”
LOL!
Don’t forget the Google or Amazon Refrigerator, so THEY can see how much beer you have chilling, or if you have over the permitted amounts of sweetened drinks
Yep. By the time you get a conversation actually started, the person is gone. Most Ring videos I’ve seen catch the back of the person walking away from your porch.
I fixed 'em -- I left my colonscopy pictures right in front of the camera. Eye candy. What a bunch of deevs. Thanks BenLurkin.
I could see it happening.
Back when I worked as a dev, we could get to pretty much every customers complete set of data except if they had gone out of their way to lock it down. Vast majority didn’t. It really helped for debugging problems.
Different times.
Ive written this before; this era would be a wonderland for Stalin and Beria. Not only do the victims of spying buy the equipment - then they install and maintain it!
sometimes you catch 3 hours of this...
