Today's Cryptogram
1/08/2019 | Nikos1121

Today's Cryptogram:

VXY RXFDY NHFJDYA RCVX VXY RFHDO CG VXZV MFFDG ZKO MZKZVCBG ZHY ZDRZQG GF BYHVZCK FM VXYAGYDIYG, ZKO RCGYH NYFNDY GF MWDD FM OFWJVG. JYHVHZKO HWGGYDD

Solution to our last puzzle is in the first reply below.

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example:

AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram)

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

If you can solve this under 8 minutes you're good. Under 5 minutes is very good. Under 3 excellent. Under 2 minutes, exceptional.

2 min, would’ve been faster but I was on my phone.
Very easy today.

NO, you’re just too good.

For tomorrow, try this. Going from left to right, solve each word, before going to the next. You can of course scan the puzzle first, but when you put the solution down go “word for word.”

Wow, that was the easiest one I ever solved. FUN! I used to do the cryptogram in the daily paper, but our current paper doesn’t seem to have one. I will look again! My mother and I raced to bring the newspaper in first, so as to be the one doing the quote!
Thanks again! I didn’t know we had this on FR!

I think I just sat here and filled it in without even having to think about it. There are certain patterns in English that if you know grammar and spelling, it helps! I also know Italian, German, Spanish... just enough to get into trouble LOL

Same here. It would be in the local paper, and we’d race at work to see would get it first. I just started it on FR. You want to be on the CG Ping List?

The paper has one daily.

Once you know grammar rules... that helps... For example in Italian we say The My Kitchen. The My Car. The My House. But not The My Mamma. That is a very Familiar word and you don’t say The My.... It was so odd when we learned this in my 7 semesters of Italian classes, that we thought the profesora was kidding us! But she grew up in Italy and knows most of the Dialects. In Italian a dialect is as different from Proper Italian that the words are all different. You can tell they are speaking Italian, but you won’t have a clue what they are saying.

I LOVE LANGUAGES!

Seems like there is a language without the word THE????

My favorite board game is SCRABBLE

That was easy. Solve a couple two & three letter words and the rest of the words fall in place.

I hate being in the wrong 50%. I was really good at these 45 years ago.

Once I spotted the word “THAT,” the rest came pretty quickly. About 6 minutes, I’d say.

Working old puzzles.

This one went quickly, I picked the right first word, guessed at the fourth word which gave me the second word, and the rest fell into place.

Two minutes or so.
