Only months before the opening of its $1-billion Star Wars expansion, the Disneyland Resort announced price increases of up to 25% for daily tickets, annual passes and parking.
The increases, which took effect Sunday, come less than a year after the resort adopted price hikes of up to 18%. Under the latest increases, the cheapest daily ticket will be more than $100. Daily parking prices are rising to $25 from $20 a 25% increase.
Disneylands annual ritual of charging more is partly aimed at crowd control, although price hikes in the last few years have not diminished the throngs at Disneyland and its neighboring California Adventure Park.
Disneyland expects visitor demand to hit new heights when it opens its newest area, dubbed Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, this summer. The 14-acre expansion will feature two attractions, including a ride that lets visitors pilot the Millennium Falcon, the spaceship flown by Han Solo in the Star Wars movies.

“$112 is the cheapest ticket for an all day adult.”
‘There’s a sucker born every minute’
“There’s a sucker born every minute” is a phrase often credited to P. T. Barnum, an American showman. Though this phrase is often credited to Barnum, it was actually spoken by a man by the name of David Hannum, who was criticizing both Barnum and his customers.
the last 3 years
Walt Disney is probably turning over in his grave over what those who’ve taken over the company he founded have done to and with it!
Maybe we need to sign on to Jim Carrey’s new Socialism in California:
The Jim Carrey Act
All residents of California, Shall be Entitled to Free Admission to All Entertainment venue’s in the State
That’s like $9 in today’s money.
I actually like the crowd control IDEA, but if it were true, why not offer exact numbers of tickets for the number of hours you pay for, put electronic wristbands on every guest, and have them flash big when your time is up?
Have everyone make reservations to go to Disneyland, even season pass owners, so they can plan the number of guests and make the whole day more enjoyable to all guests? Pay by the hour and reserve your stay in advance. And have computers keep track so that there cannot be more than x # of guests at any hour or any day.
Keeping raising the prices means you hate middle class families. There can be no other reason.
It was just under $50 a ticket back in 1972, my one and only visit to Disneyland. I was a freshly minted Marine just out of Boot. A local relative took me. Knotts Berry had better food and rides, imo.
There was talk of making the annual passes due in a single payment, which would make it more difficult for many locals to buy them.

“Maybe the prices will keep out some of the riff raff.”
If people will spend $100 they will spend 10 to 25% more. We have never been there and will never go there because of their social leanings. They don’t get our support.
Yeah, but you got a coupon book with tickets for rides and there were only a few for the premiere rides. At some point during your stay you would stop at one of the ticket booths in the park and purchase more “E” tickets.
I’ll continue to do my part to contribute to crowd control.
$100 is cheap for the masses to fulfill a dream they have. It becomes a once in a lifetime luxury adventure even for people who will use their EBT cards to eat. We are that prosperous. Just about anybody can scrape up enough with non-taxed side hustles to take the family there when all their overhead living expenses are covered by uncle sugar using our tax dollars.
We have provided relative prosperity for the masses using the public treasury.
This from the Daily Oklahoman in 1951 and attributed to Alexander Tyler by some. No matter, it is probably true:
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.
Our kids ,when they were little, and now our grandkids are totally unimpressed with Disneyworld. We took our kids when they were 5,8 and 9 and they never wanted to go back. Our 2 oldest grandsons went as little guys and have never been back and my 2 youngest grandsons have no desire to visit the place. The granddaughters live near Disneyland and did love the park when they were little.
Newly attributable to al gore? :-)
When we lived in Fl we were close enough but eventually when folks came to visit we would point them to the Beeline Expressway and tell them to follow the signs. Not worth the hassle.
“Romans 12 2 comes to mind.”
How true! The spirit of the Age is upon this world, and it bodes ill for those who are led by it.
Never been to DWO but I was in Orlando on business & heard a local radio host with a Cuban accent who was practically screaming, “don’t take your kids to Disney World! It’s Gay week! You don’t want your kids seeing all those maricones prancing around! Wait till next week!”
Always thought the Magic Kingdom was expensive and overrated and they went PC long ago.
I have lived within 20 miles of Disneyland
My entire 60 years. I haven’t been there since 1977. My wife being unable to have children probably helped that situation a lot. I just have zero desire to drop over $300 for the two of us to fight the crowds / attractions / concessions lines.
Disney owns ESPN, ABC and Disney.
How much of their business ad $ income has been lost in the past two years with ESPN/NFL, ABC and Disney tv in the past two years.
If you love/crave/Disney world so be it.
The same goes with Apple addicts.
We live in America and you/I can spend our money on anything we want to.
No sense lettin' da po folks ruin a good day at the park fo da rich folks..........
“To put it another way, why should Disney add capacity to alleviate crowding, when they can simply INCREASE PRICES, and not have to deal with the headaches and costs of more expanding?!”
They probably had focus groups with their addicted regulars and were told that 75% of the people would still come if the prices were increased 25%.
Besides no expansion headaches and costs, they can probably cut their staff 10-25% with less Disney Addicts, with even more net $’s in their gross income.
