Did anyone else see the movie and catch that?

I'll be much more keen to such placements in movies in the future. I'm considering writing a couple of letters...given that this movie now smacks of "grooming" from where I sit...

I’ve never seen it. Never will.

Producers don’t make movies to entertain. They make them to place thoughts into our minds. The plot of a movie is there to draw you in, to get you to willingly suspend your disbelief, and to accept whatever the movie tells you. While you are in a state of suspended skepticism, and eagerly following the story line, they inject the thoughts they want you to have.

Sometimes it’s overt. Other times it’s subliminal. But it’s almost always there.

Look for interviews with the producers. They willingly share the reason why they made the film. They tell you their world view that is the reason for making the film.

We’ve known the Hollywood was “Hollywierd” for much longer than a decade!

You totally missed what the movie was about. Ashton Kutcher's character is able to actually relive the past to change what transpires from the previous enactment. The movie brings up all kinds of bad behavior including child molestation, prison rape, animal cruelty, accidental murder, suicide, drug addiction, mental illness, and prostitution.

He goes back to make things turn out better. It includes homophobic and racial slurs and other deeper points as the movie tries to make the case that the butterfly effect, chaos theory, play huge roles in determining the kind of people individuals turn out to be based upon events & decisions large and small they experience. Or stated another way, that people are products of their environments.

But my take is that people are products of their environment only to the extent they allow their environment to shape their development. Because obviously people react differently even when they are subjected to similar environments. So people turn out the way they are because of the individual and how they personally react to their environment. How they chose to react is what shapes them.

First off why are you rewatching that movie it was terrible. Second off he BLACKED OUT, blacking out is not pedophilia. People black out from things that shock and frighten them. And then the thing had terrible repercussions. Why write letters about a 14 year old crappy movie nobody wants to watch? it’s in the ash heap of history, leave it there, nobody likes it anyway.

Disagree completely with your take. There was nothing in that movie that glorified pedophilia.

Not sure your interpretation is correct...let’s not do what the Left does and “exaggerate” things to fit the agenda you would like to be true.

That’s a misinterpretation.

However, National Lampoon’s Vacation thinks pedophilia is hilarious.

Rocky Horror picture show begins with two rapes.

And Sixteen Candles ends with a rape.

If the film were celebrating, glorifying, or promoting pedophilia the film would have shown children and adults as being normal and happy.

The film is about trying to correct destructive experiences (child sexual abuse) from the past that have haunted and traumatized people throughout their lives.

It's not promoting or celebrating pedophilia. It's a warning about the long-range consequences of abuse.

Just because you found the subject disturbing doesn't discount the importance of the message.

You are free to delete this thread. I was hoping to raise awareness of hidden messages in a movie and all I did was discover FR has some very, very disturbed members.

I really don’t care to read these comments in the future. Please make it go away and the topic will never be broached by me here in the future.

I have the movie on DVD and, in my case, the Christian conversion of the brother was the most disturbing part. This one flew right under my radar. Good catch.

The Christian coversion part was troubling because it suggests that events determined whether God chose him or not.

Never saw this movie and don’t know anything about it but it does not surprise me; it’s important to put the name of the screenwriter and director out there if you have found this pedophilia disguised as art. Who’s doing it,and keep them away from child actors.

I think that you are reading too much into the scene -- or perhaps not enough. Plausibly, Evan's blackout during the childhood abuse was a simple reaction to the impending abuse, or it might have been a blackout due to an implied later failed intervention. This would mean that as the psych staff was about to close Evan down, he had one desperate last shot to set things right because no other timeline was open for him to try even if he got free.

I intensely disliked the entire scene though. It seemed gratuitous and you may well be correct about the reason why it was part of the film.

The usual pattern for gays though is to be drawn toward teens and young men, but with relatively few gays as pedophiles in the sense of being drawn to and abusing young children. Sadly, many teen victims of gay abuse go on to a lifetime of problems, with many who were hetero becoming bisexual or gay. The leaders of gay rights groups are said to often have a history of victimization as a triggering event.

The bottom line is that children have to be protected against everyone. It is with male teens that the risk of victimization by gays is highest.

blatantly placed in a movie with no bearing on the plot whatsoever.

Thanks for your comments and for posting this interesting vanity, but I do not agree with your take on it. I feel the movie was poorly written, though well acted, and well enough directed.

I thought you might enjoy a link on the movie from TV Tropes:

this is an apology for a post that was taken down by the moderator unfortunately I cant revue it because it was removed by the moderator.. My attention was never to call LOG0_cal 1869 a pedophile. at this point because the post was pulled I must assume that is what happened. grammar and punctuation is not something I am good at because of this deficit some time What I type is not what I am trying to say and can take on another meaning. Please except this apology I try never to call people names and am saddened that it looks like I did that. if you noticed the post was done twice with me trying to reedit the post to make it readable all I can think is that while reediting it a sentence got placed where it should not of.
