Daryl Dragon, the hat-wearing musician familiar to 1970s music fans as half of the bestselling duo the Captain & Tennille, died Tuesday in Prescott, Arizona at age 76.
Dragons ex-wife, Toni Tennille, was with him as he took his last breath, said Harlon Boll, a spokesperson for the singer. In a statement, Tennille said, He was a brilliant musician with many friends who loved him greatly. I was at my most creative in my life when I was with him.
Dragon died of renal failure, according to Boll.

You’re on the surface of a very deep ocean and have no idea of the strong undercurrents of the deep between two people, especially a husband and a wife.
All we can tell and judge are symptoms from our own narrow and limited background and experience.
They lived in Prescott AZ for years, then both moved away when they divorced. Toni moved back here last year and since Daryl passed away in Prescott today he probably moved back too.
Yes, it was. Saw ELO at Louisiana Tech that spring, with my future wife and another couple.

I get the feeling that maybe he had what is now called autism. He had great talent for music and arranging, but not so great on the social level. Two different people who work for a long time, especially when they have a joint goal (like career or children or something) that makes strengths of their differences. But when that goes away (retirement, the kids grow up), the differences aren’t strengths any more, just fractures.
It makes me think of Steve Martin, who is so warm and engaging when performing, but I’ve read is very withdrawn and cold in private.
If it’s the same Super Dave i saw on TV, he was FUNNY. Sorry to hear he’s gone.
I saw them in Roanoke, Va that year. Good show.
It was also the year before I married my first wife. Last sowing of the wild oats if you will. ;)
Whoa, do you know where in Prescott they lived? It’s a cool place but not a lot to do. More like a great place to hang around and come back to after you’re you’re off somewhere else.
I lived in Prescott AZ for five years.
My wife has strangely, suddenly started playing non-stop 70s over the past week. Bee Gees, Abba, Fleetwood, and these two as well. I hope we won't see all the remaining idols fall this year (Gibb, John, etc). Gibb's genius was staggering.
Prescott was the first state capitol of AZ before Phoenix.
IIRC, the reason for the divorce was related to medical costs. FWIW.
Barry Gibb finished a tour I believe this year. I did not see it but hope he will tour again!
Toni Tenille played keys live for the Beach Boys. IIRC she got the gig on only a verbal recommendation of Daryl. Impressive, at least to me. Muskrat Love...not so much.

I heard they lived off of Williamson Valley Road, probably between Outer Loop Road and Iron Springs Road.
I wonder what his last words were? ... too soon?
And Pelosi keeps breathing......
