The outpouring of support of late has resonated with Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts. The way people stood and applauded him during graduation a few weeks ago was touching. To be given the "Most Inspirational Player" award by his teammates at the end-of-year banquet was something he said he really appreciated.
But before the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma last week, as Hurts talked about all the love he has been shown, he also took care to say, "My story's far from over."
"That's something that people said -- not me," he said. "Who said it was over?"
This is what had bothered Hurts all along, going back to his eyebrow-raising comments about a lack of communication from Alabama coaches about the QB battle with Tua Tagovailoa in the preseason: people's assumptions and how he wasn't in control of his own story. Even though Hurts had never laid out his plans, there wasn't a talking head alive who hadn't looked into his or her crystal ball for at least one prediction.
"I've never said anything about transferring," Hurts said. "Those words have never come out of my mouth. ... If I haven't spoken about it, I don't think there's a conversation to be had."

In this era of players forgoing games in favor of the draft costing team, Jalen stands out against this trend.
And wow, some sports talk show mentioned a high school player that sat out their championship run to ensure scholarship. If I were that player's college I'd rescind the scholarship offer as he is not a team player.
I didn’t know that he has another year left. If so, he’d be stupid NOT to stay where he is. He can be a very effective quarterback in the NFL with a team that has a strong defense, eg a team like The Bears and many others.
the day of the big name, big price tag quarterback is over. Get a guy in there, who plays the game solidly everyweek, and spend the money on great players to surround and protect him.
From an Auburn fan, Jalen Hurts has been a class act all the way around. His passing has improved in the last year, also. I wish him nothing but the best going forward. Can’t help but pull for an outstanding young man like that.
Jalen is ready to go in the game when his number is called.
I disagree, I think he should transfer to a top school that is fairly decent in football (e.g Washington) and his NFL status would be upgraded if he could get that team into the CFP.
Furthermore Tua’s brother, a top HS QB is part of the 2019 team along with another QB that is a Bear Bryant descendant.
He can be a legend, for the rest of his life at Bama. For the rest of his life. Why transfer...? Stay where he’s at, finish up. Makes no sense. He’ll be even better next year.
It’s for the team, not the individual.
At this point, Hurts doesn’t owe Bama anything. His record as the starter was 26-2, but Saban decided to go with Tua, and the results speak for themselves. Tua has been outstanding, but it was Hurts who helped the Tide preserve their SEC title hopes and propelled them into yet another national championship game.
Hurts earned his bachelor’s at Alabama last month, and he meets all the requirements for a graduate transfer. There are plenty of Power 5 schools that would welcome him with open arms. A year of being THE QB would only enhance his stock in the 2020 NFL draft. While Hurts conducted himself with great character and dignity after being replaced as the starter, I don’t see him in Tuscaloosa next season.
Pretty much my thinking also. He learned how to be a better QB this year at Bama, it would be best IMHO if he could use and prefect those skills as a 1st stringer for some program.
He’s transferring to OU
