A 22-year-old newly-hired employee was attacked and killed by a lion after it escaped a locked space at a North Carolina animal center on Sunday, officials said.
A "husbandry team, led by a professionally trained animal keeper, was carrying out a routine enclosure cleaning" at the Conservators Center in Burlington when a lion left the locked space, went into the area where the humans were and killed Alexandra Black, the Caswell County Sheriffs Office said in a statement.
Black, 22, from New Palestine, Indiana, had recently graduated from Indiana State University and had worked at the Conservator Center for about two weeks, the sheriff's office said. She was also a college intern, the sheriff's office added.

Lion Out-Tag Out
I didnt know there were lions in Caswell County.
*************
Apparently there was one between Frogsboro and Locust Hill.
LOL...........that’s funny!!
That particular one always made me laugh. I’m a fan of Gary Larson’s cartoons.
ABC News is now a chat source.
Good to know.
I will remind everyone on every ABC sourced thread for the next few months that the site administration has made this proclamation, and refer them to the archived copy of this thread. And I will have others do the same in getting the word out, as I have the best of intentions and wouldn’t want anyone in trouble for a ruling of which they were unaware.
That is how you end up with lions at a place like this. People buy them, thinking they will be such a *cool* pet. Then the lions grow up...
I don’t think your cousin’s wife is ‘brave.’ (I’ll leave it at that).
Hakuna Matata!
Sad that this woman died.
BUT I hate that they killed the animal. They could have tried harder with the tranquilizer gun. Not the beast’s fault that a novice person got too close. Who’s running the zoo? Who let woman get too close? And as you said, How did lion leave “locked” space.
Well bravery is all relative. I am not brave enough to go anywhere near a unrestrained lion/tiger, alligators in the pond in my condo complex in Florida, or the frequent snake visiting my parent’s house house in India, or try to kill a live scorpion. I have a real story of run-in with a huge black scorpion which still gives me nightmares after half a century.
Brave??
They work long hours for little/no pay, just to put it on their resume.
Veterinary medicine is a very popular career for students, there are long waiting lists for schools and jobs in the field. I'm sure they are exploited, you probably shovel cr*p and prepare feed for years, hoping for your big break.
Interns seem to be mostly female, young and fit. I guess they must be delicious, too...
Well it’s a good one.......
This scum teevee site blocks my comments, filthy bstrds.
But if it were up to me id see every last lion, tiger, puma, and bear killed off from the face of Earth forever. Who needs them. I meanreally.
Ohhhhh, but they cull the herrrrds.... There are plenty of human hunters who can do that. What tree-hugger bllsht.

Burlington is in Alamance County, I believe.
Whoa the lion did what lions do. You want to stop this kind of crap kill the professional trainers and your self.
Who said that?
