Greetings from Missouri. Gloomy day with almost zero sunshine, but at least we aren't at freezing! Hoping for more sun tomorrow.

Hubby has 2 more raised beds ready to go. So I'll plant some more rye, if we get a decent day. Lemon tree is still blooming and doing better. Usually, I have lemons to pick by Christmas, so the problems this year, seems to have reset my timeline.

I have one of the tomato plants that has some blooms. We got in 3 more seed catalogs this week. Hubby already has 2 pages of seeds listed-I think he needs to cull the list. LOL

To anyone wanting to grow lettuce in the winter, I really had good results a few years back with a lettuce named winter density, which I covered with a double layer of row cover, and planted in a somewhat protected location on south west facing bed.

Have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless

Hello everyone from Louisiana , this being my first REAL winter down here has me just baffled...all the leaves are fallen from the hardwoods , the grass just stopped growing yet I have some plants flowering? and the rose bush I WAS thinking about trimming back is now sprouting new leaves all over its spiney self? I am dumbfounded as I was normally up north in Massachusetts and the last 10 years in Maine...any advice from freepers in this section of our GREAT Republic...this is all upside down to me.

I’m planning to build some more raised beds in my garden next spring (the previous owners built some also).

Was planning to use pressure-treated lumber, but got to thinking plain wood might be more prudent.

Anyone got any definitive reasons to use untreated wood?

Has anyone harvested turmeric? Need to repot mine as it's crowded the pot so need to harvest most of the tubers.

Also, dwarf bananna should be putting out a fruit spike any day now ... wondering when I should fertilize it.

Cool and damp in Southwest Missouri this weekend. We’re shacked up in a condo in Branson for a few days. No water coming out of Table Rock which has made the trout fishing on Taneycomo less than good. We’ve managed to fool a few, but we’re not breaking any records for sure. Rain chased us off the lake this afternoon. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Weather continues to be mild and, unless it changes drastically overnight, I plan on planting spring bulbs. Daffies and miniture Dutch Iris. Also violas recently purchased at deep discount prices. Maybe sow lettuce seeds and arugula as well. I usually sow seeds of romaine lettuce and cover them with a plastic tarp. They do well in my environment.

Hope everyone in the group is doing well and I wish you all the best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Time for starting 2019 pepper seeds. I have a 24 pot seed tray with a plastic dome that I sit on a heat mat so it stays at around 80 degrees F. I plant 4 seeds for each variety then as they germinate I move them into recycled yogurt cups and put them under a LED grow light for 18 hours per day of light. When they outgrow that they go onto my windowsill in the sun room then finally outdoors for the year. Cold isn't an issue where I live but in the winter there can be heavy downpours that would beat the seedlings into the dirt. This season my new varieties will be Big Black Mama, Big Yellow Mama, NagaBrain Yellow, Apocolypse Scorpion, Jais Peach Ghost Scorpion, Jais Pink, White Bhutlah and Purple Rush. I have all of the red varieties I need so I am going for more color this season. Image and video hosting by TinyPic
