When you get “axed” by the Travel Channel, you’re done.

Well, I believe him as he’s a Minnesota boy and should know midwest better than most...

Of course, he was a heroin addict and had to go through treatment three times...

Good oriental food in the middle of Kansas is just as common as fresh seafood.

I don’t know about the Midwest, but he certainly would have been right about the South. There’s no scarier restaurant than a “Chinese Buffet” down here!

All of these tv chefs and traveling tv foodies are deeply obnoxious, conceited and annoying so I’m not surprised another one’s mouth ran away from him. Whether he should be fired is another thing.

I’m in a different region of the country now and cannot find decent Chinese food. Sad!

This isn’t the thought police. This is him being an asshole. And paying the price.

You know what’s good? Barbecue. It is possible to eat Midwest barbecue every day and be happy.

Wisconsin Chinese food often comes with a side of roach legs while the meat comes from various disappeared pets ...

only the un-battered shrimp and salmon is safe to eat because they come straight from shrimp and salmon farms, having digested wholesome food coloring, delicious cuprous oxides (salt water bottom paint), various hormones, and antibiotics so you know they are tasty and disease free.

I understand why he would apologize, but it's a shame that we aren't discussing the sad state of Chinese food instead. Here in the Albany oblast of the People's Republic of New York, the Chinese food is like virtually everything else culinary—bland. So while it does match the overall tenor of the area, it's very frustrating that there's no energy in the food and no flavors that capture you. We gave up having any because it's not worth the effort and the expense.

Someone like Andrew Zimmern whose notoriety is for traveling around and eating crazy things like cow vein soup, reindeer testicles, and, of course, bugs, should be able to say, "Hey! How about we stop catering solely to the timid eaters out there and get some serious Chinese food back on restaurant menus?" He cannot, of course and so while the great snowflake masses are celebrating another successful hurt feelings campaign, maybe we should resurrect Chi-Chi's so it can bury Mexican food again under a glob of melted fake cheese and sugary salsa, and give the bland food police social media whiners a place to celebrate. Or better yet, let's just go straight to Demolition Man culinary hell ten years early and make every restaurant Taco Bell.

The move comes after the James Beard Award-winning chef offended the Asian-American community in comments to promote his Midwestern Chinese restaurant chain by saying: “I think I’m saving the souls of all the people from having to dine at these horses - - t restaurants masquerading as Chinese food that are in the Midwest.”

The guy sounds like another elitist who knows what's best for everyone. Restaurants adjust their menu and pricing to the locale in order to stay in business. The free market system provides en excellent feedback loop. Since the days of the California Gold Rush, Chinese restaurants have adjusted their menus to local tastes and budgets. Like chop suey.

Tell him that the barbecue and fried fish restaurants are horsesh*t there too.

Then let’s go to the coast and see just how many restaurants (including east coast pizzarias) are horsesh*t.

90% of everthing is crud (Sturgeon’s law).

As if he hasn’t eaten horsesh*t food while abroad.

They just serve the crap fast food-conditioned Americans prefer - like Lemon or Sweet and Sour Chicken drenched in sugary sauce. You won't find 90% of the dishes on an American-Chinese menu in China.

Tip: many Chinese restaurants have a separate, Chinese-language menu with completely different items on it. Bring a Chinese-speaking friend along and have him/her order next time - you'll be amazed at the difference.

I think the boy has a point... Better stay out of those places in Ohio unless you have real good plumbing...

Where I live the Chinese restaurants clone their menus, all have the same menu and they all seem run by Mainland Chinese. I rarely spend my money in them. There are a few Chinese buffets that cost about 10$ (lunch not dinner) after tipping. I prefer them because I can pick out exactly what I want to eat. IOW if too greasy then I skip it. Lots of good fish and seafood options at one of them.
