Just got an emergency alert on my cell phone with this message.
I use Sprint and live near Tacoma/Puyallup.
What gives?
I was an old radio DJ back in the era when you heard the EBS tones and they meant that there was a possibility it was an imminent nuclear attack on the way. When those same EBS tones come out of your phone at 11:30 at night and wake you up out of a sound sleep, it’s going to scare the living bejeebers right out of you. Just like they did to me. I don’t think I’ll be going back to sleep tonight.
Telephone services have been data linked since the 80s, so this is almost no surprise.
But I can’t remember anything like this before.
Guess they’re super concentrated. There must be some central 911 control center.
BTW, the British linked their EAS to the phone system in the 1960’s so I guess this kind of stuff is all super tied together now.
Blame it on Soros.
His tentacles reach into everything/half sarc
Didn’t you have the cool EBS unit in the studio with the daily codeword in a book?
[UPDATE: CenturyLink tweeted a statement about the outage:
Our network is experiencing a disruption affecting customer services. We understand some customers are currently unable to generate tickets through the CTL help portal. We know how important services are to our customers and are working to restore services as quickly as possible.
The pre 911 kind
1986, in fact.
BTW, never saw this before.
And I thank you.
Looks like one of those old FEMA nuke maps.
Outages this size causing tech failures (911), indicative of a massive DDOS possibly.
Wonder how the call center folks in the Phillipines are dealing with this.
That was exactly what I was thinking - DDOS attack a big one
Lots of folks complaining the phone notification alerts woke them up.....guess lots awake tonight!
I’m in Woodinville...very loud screeching from my phone.
At least it quit.
News will assuredly report it’s the Russians....especially if it’s really someone here causing it!
CTL might be even a better buy tomorrow and it’s got a substantial dividend already.
I’ll bet more folks sleep with their phones these days than with another human being.
It makes you wonder.
I never saw even Sprint hiccup like this.
When Putin went into Crimea our military leaders said the one thing favorable was they learned that Russia was much further ahead then they realized in Russia’s capability to shut down communications. They completely shut down Ukraines entire military communications so the commanders etc could not get thru any orders of response.
my cell is off most of the time except when I’m out. I also have land line I prefer when home.....as well as an old push button emergency phone I can plug into the jack and still have service via wire.
I have Century link and love their service actually. We’re not down here in Western Pa. And the few times down it’s been back up before you can make a pot of coffee! LOLOL
