The John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell team-up was not screened in advance for critics, so subsequent reviews will likely be added that may affect the score.
Holmes & Watson the latest team-up from Step Brothers duo John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell has earned a rare (albeit, likely unwelcome) feat.
The movie currently sits at a zero percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as of 8 a.m. PT with 12 reviews accounted for. (The movie was not screened in advance for critics, so subsequent reviews will likely be added that may affect the score.)
Reilly and Ferrell parody Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detectives, leading a cast that includes Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall and Ralph Fiennes.
The Hollywood Reporter's critic Frank Scheck wrote of the holiday comedy that released Dec. 25: "Numerous talented British thespians are wasted in supporting roles in this Christmas turkey that, not surprisingly, wasn't screened in advance for critics. Although making them troop out to theaters Christmas morning is something of which even Ebenezer Scrooge wouldn't have approved."
The movie opened at a crowded Christmas Day box office, placing No. 4 behind Aquaman, Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns, and earning $6.4 million.
As 2018 comes to a close, two other films released this year earned zero percent fanfare: The Amber Heard-starring mystery adaptation London Fields and John Travolta's Gotti, the biopic about the late mobster John Gotti.
I can count on one hand...the number of Ferrell movies worth going to see...the other 20 are worthless. He’s like Chevy Chase...he’ll be dumped by age 55 and show up on some TV series.
Same assclown (farrel) that was knocking on doors in Georgia looking for dem votes. He’s been off the list for quite a while now.
They needed more gay characters?
And isnt there a Mary Sue in it that critics can rally around too?
It’s hard for me to understand why they make incredibly stupid farce movies of successful endeavors like Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch, etc. Even if it made money - why? Just to be stupid? It must be there’s just a lot of cocaine flying around Hollywood.
Never cared for him either. I don't understand why people find him entertaining. I think the last movie I watched of his was the original Anchorman movie in 2004.
It looked really stupid. But not funny.
'What's your favorite plant? Mine's the sun.'
Without a Clue, starring Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley, was a very funny Sherlock Holmes comedy.
.....................................................
And let’s not forget Gene Wilder and Marty Feldman in ‘Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother’.

He tries hard and he has been in a lot of varied roles, from the clueless husband in Chicago to an Irish gang banger in Gangs of New York to a video game character in Wreck It Ralph. I wish him success just because he's so ugly. Not all of the Hollywood stars have to be beautiful people.
My four word review:
Bay Sill Rath Bone
That is the type of media I want to continue lining the bookshelves in my den and living room with. Unless it’s a really good read, I only get in a few chapters at a time. My wife, OTOH, will pick up a 500 page novel and not put it down until she reaches the back dust cover.
I really enjoyed him in ‘Deliverance’..........
Oh, he wasn’t in ‘Deliverance’?
No wonder I enjoyed it..................
Stranger Than Fiction is the only movie I have ever seen him in that I liked.
It wasn’t a comedy but then again most of his comedies aren’t that funny.
Yes, the best Sherlock ever!...................
Talladega Nights was very funny. Stranger than Fiction was a very interesting movie. But that's it.
Awesome in Boogie Nights.
How the hell is making a bad movie even possible? You would think if the script is crap you don’t make it, especially when we’re talking an investment of millions of dollars. These people are beyond stupid which comes as no surprise being that most of them are leftists.
It appears that unlike everyone else posting here... I like slapstick comedy. I do not go to the movies to be taught leftist social lessons. I just want them to make me laugh and forget about our daily trials and tribulations.
My wife and I watched this movie on Christmas. It was not a great movie, in fact we went to a theater with fancy recliners and my wife had to wake me up at one point after I started snoring. But there were parts that did make us laugh. Most of the best scenes are in the trailers for the movie and we commented to each other that we had already seen most of the highlights before watching the movie. However, unlike nearly every other movie currently out, there was not any nudity or foul language that I remember.
The absolute worst part of the movie were the absolutely awful trailers for other movies that were played for a full half after the movie was suppose to have started. The movie was suppose to start at 3:45 and the trailers didn’t end until 4:15. Those trailers included horrific and repeated graphic murders and deaths along with foul language and pornographic scenes in front of an audience of mostly teenagers and young adults. I spent 25 years working in a big city fire department and saw more than my share of real situations that I try not to think about, but this stuff was shocking. Why aren’t all the people here whining and complaining about this mostly innocuous movie, complaining about that those filthy and hideous movies???
The series with Jeremy Brett was probably the best ever.
Actually Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce were the best actors. I have a short video of Conan Doyle and his mannerisms etc. are very close to Bruce. That is as it should be as Watson was clearly an alter ego of Sir Arthur.
Unfortunately for Rathbone and Bruce their movies were what they called “Quota Quickies”. They were still pretty good despite the low amount of money used in making them.
“Farrells movies fall into two categories very funny or very bad.”
I couldn’t agree more although I would extend that description to include his co-star. Two peas in a pod. Either funny as heck or a complete waste. Even the law of averages says sometimes they should hit in the middle, but I have yet to see it.
