Well, this seems to have become an annual event. Alone on Christmas Eve, reaching out to my fellow FReepers.
Myself, I have my daughter's hermit crab for company. And some great classical Christmas music. And, a little later, George Bailey and friends via BluRay.
Anyone else spending this evening solo?
Believe, and that will attract her right to you.
-----------------
The best advice I had was that the girl of my dreams was not going to come to my home and knock on the door. You have to get out there amongst the flock.
Here's a literary reference from Kafka ---
The emperorit is saidsent to you, the one apart, the wretched subject, the tiny shadow that fled far, far from the imperial sun, precisely to you he sent a message from his deathbed. He bade the messenger kneel by his bed, and whispered the message in his ear. So greatly did he cherish it that he had him repeat it into his ear. With a nod of his head he confirmed the accuracy of the messengers words. And before the entire spectatorship of his deathall obstructing walls have been torn down and the great figures of the empire stand in a ring upon the broad, soaring exterior stairwaysbefore all these he dispatched the messenger.
The messenger set out at once; a strong, an indefatigable man; thrusting forward now this arm, now the other, he cleared a path though the crowd; every time he meets resistance he points to his breast, which bears the sign of the sun; and he moves forward easily, like no other. But the crowds are so vast; their dwellings know no bounds. If open country stretched before him, how he would fly, and indeed you might soon hear the magnificent knocking of his fists on your door.
But instead, how uselessly he toils; he is still forcing his way through the chambers of the innermost palace; never will he overcome them; and were he to succeed at this, nothing would be gained: he would have to fight his way down the steps; and were he to succeed at this, nothing would be gained: he would have to cross the courtyard and, after the courtyard, the second enclosing outer palace, and again stairways and courtyards, and again a palace, and so on through thousands of years; and if he were to burst out at last through the outermost gatebut it can never, never happenbefore him still lies the royal capital, the middle of the world, piled high in its sediment. Nobody reaches through here, least of all with a message from one who is dead.
You, however, sit at your window and dream of the message when evening comes.
Yes...a peaceful Christmas to all of you.
I have had many enjoyable and insightful conversations with nathanbedford over the years and have missed him on FR.
Nathanbedford, if you are out there this Christmas Day...best wishes to you, FRiend.
yep I am alone..went raccoon hunting for 3 hours...now I will make my dinner...will give the dogs a little extra..
A peaceful Christmas to you and your Brothers and to all who are on the other side of the world this Christmas Day in the service of their country as you were those many years ago.
Welcome Home.
Wife is asleep now. Going to get comfortable and read my favorite Christmas book:
A Merry Christmas to you, Skooz. Hang in there.
All of the best things I ever adored and loved was imperfect. And I always thought my life was not good enough to attract some one in. But I am am a hopeful romantic. Hope you keep prayerful on it too. Keep believing and Hang in there darling. Hugs. Merry Christmas.
Amen.
Thank you, Big Red Badger.
Wishing you, your doggies and everyone a warm loving and Merry Christmas. Spreading my Christmas joy to all. It was going to lonely for me. But I got to be around family and so much to be thankful for. And very thankful for my FR friends too.
dogs all inside on the bed...we are warm... merry Christmas
Thank you.
I agree. Stewart was wonderful in it. I had the book club read the play (no book, just the movie)...most had not heard of it. So, sad the young have missed classic movies like “Harvey.”
I know your pain.
And still God never hears me. He never gives any indication that He's heard, anyway.
Sometimes the hurt and loneliness are too much and getting out is looking better and better.
I also have REALLY MISSED Nathan Bedford, havent seen him here in quite some time I hope nothing has happened to him!!! I just assumed that during the 2016 election there was a lot of animosity between Cruz people and Trump people Nathan was definitely a Cruz person and things got very nasty around here!!! I thought for sure he would return but I am starting to worry about his health at this point, I REALLY miss his postings AND brilliant insight to all things political!!!
I’m here with you, beloved FRiend. You’re not alone, especially because the Savior of the World, Jesus—whose miraculous Birth we celebrate on this night and tomorrow, tells us that “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Full verse, Joshua 1:5 [also see Hebrews 13:5]: “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
If you have never asked Christ as your Lord and Savior, let Him come into your heart and truly experience true Life, the life that He came and gave Himself as a sacrifice for. For He says, “I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6).
I’m married to a very courageous, hard-working and humble man that very much reminds me of Gideon in the Bible. He was the least of his tribe of Manasseh, yet God used him and only 300 fighting men to attack the Midianites, Amalekites and thousands of other eastern peoples—”...Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.” (Judges 7:12, excerpt). My husband does not follow Jesus, but I know that the Lord intends awesome things through him.
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords loves YOU! Today is a new Day, and a blessed day for you.
That’s a nice Christmas Eve meal! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
No one is ever too broken for the Lord Jesus. Your life to Him is priceless, not a mistake. May this Christmas and New Year bring you an abundance of great blessings.
Thanks for that tip! It will smell like paint for quite some time actually because I used oil paint on window frames, doors, baseboards, door frames
. Maybe the vanilla will tone it down a bit since I need to do a little bit of touch up before sanding the floors.
I did accomplish tonight what I set out to do, actually a little more than what I intended. It feels good to rest now. The dogs even stayed out of my way for a change. They usually have to try and stick their noses in everything. My female did go in there to check things out. She just stood in the middle of the room looking all around. She cracks me up. Its amazing what animals notice.
I never did have that glass of wine as I got caught up in my task. By the time I was finished, I was famished. Now I can get ready to sleep.
I noticed that several here tonight have lost spouses and parents this year. Big hugs of comfort to those who are grieving. Some losses are harder than others, some you get over easier than others, and some you simply never get over, but you’re stuck learning how to live WITH it. Even divorce can be a loss that’s grieved.
And sometimes that hoped for family that hasn’t happened yet, is grieved. Between now, and the time it happens, your time is totally free to serve God in whichever way he asks. You never know if that future spouse might be doing the same, and your paths just might cross!
Now that I’m old, and have lost so many, I look forward to the day when I can see them all, again. I just know that my best friend throughout my life, and who died on my birthday, will be the first voice I hear when I cross over. I can here her now, can see her in my mind’s eye jumping up and down at the gates as she shouts out..”Here she comes, everyone, she’s coming!
But the first one I want to hug, will be my King, for all he’s done, and is doing. And then, it will be a massive group hug for everyone else, with floods of tears, of joy that they were preserved by my King.
Hope is a precious thing as is the peace between us, and the All Mighty Creator God, who gave his only begotten son, so that none may perish. That’s a mighty gift of love planned for us before we were ever even conceived.
It’s no wonder the Angels broke out in song and pronouncements at the arrival of that New Born King, so much so, that the lowliest of men were able to witness such a thing as the heavens opening on earth.
Blessings to all, and to all, a good night.
Freepers, you are the best!
