The owner of the drone is going to be in a heap of trouble since this happened at an airport.

And we have to register ours here in USA to prevent this?
To: Vigilanteman
You got idiots buying them here in the toy department . I personally hate them. Why? We fly small airplanes and drone owners know zip about airspace etc. theres enough natural hazards out there to contend with.

I’ll bet there is more than $10,000,000 in damage to the aircraft...

Definitely don’t want bird or drone sucked into the engine.

Accident or attempted terrorism?
Had to be a pretty big drone to do that much damage.
As noted, these planes are designed to take bird strikes that are bigger than most civilian drones...

I expect these things are going to be problem with the terrorists. Relatively cheap and easy to learn. One would hope they have counter measures.
To: lilypad
You would think COMMON SENSE would tell them to (a)stay WAY clear of airports and (b)Keep them under 150' or so elsewhere. But evidentally they have none.
Sooner or later, someone is going to have to take them to court and force them into bankruptcy. Hope this happens before there is a real tragedy rather than just a large repair cost. You've really got to wonder what some people are thinking!

I just thought. One can easily look up the glide slope of any commercial aircraft. From that simple math will tell you the altitude of a plane along the path of its final approach. Basically I am surprised terrorists haven’t used this to bring down a plane.

Had to be a pretty big drone to do that much damage. From looking at the picture of the hole in the plane, it was probably a "cargo" hauling drone - being that close to the border and all.

Yeah, thats one hell of a drone to cause that level of damage.
A commercial drone maybe, not a small recreational drone.
