Mom cancels baby shower after family ridicules name choice

A woman has gone viral online for allegedly canceling her baby shower because her family and friends were unsupportive of her choice of baby name: Squire Sebastian Senator.

“Dear Members of the Squire Sebastian Senator Babyshower (sic),” a post on Facebook and shared on Reddit reads. “I have a really important announcement to make. It brings me pain to have to tell you this, but I am cancelling the event.”

The unidentified woman goes on to explain her decision, stating her friends have been spreading “rumors and lies.”

“Y’all have been talking s--- about my unborn baby. AN UNBORN CHILD. How can you judge an unborn child??” the social media post continues.

The mother shares that she was not “crazy,” or “mentally unstable” or “drunk” when she chose the unique three name moniker, which she emphatically points out “is only his first name.”

“He will not be allowed to have a nickname, he is to be called by his full and complete first name,” she writes.

The woman defended her choice, claiming her family is descended from a long line of “both squires and senators.”

“If you look back in our family tree, the survival of this clan is literally rooted in squiredom. We are all related to senators too,” she writes. “This name conveys power. It conveys wealth. It conveys success.”

“My baby’s name WILL be a revolution,” she continued.

The woman concludes her lengthy Facebook rant calling her family “fake”

I know a family that for three generations the oldest son was named “Doctor.”

No they were not Dr’s.

I’ve known two black females named Queen. Both were named Queen Esther, so it’s actually a Bible name.

Exactly. If anything, the baby’s name is probably too white, given the atrocious monikers too many feral-Americans lay on their yutes.

I have a cousin named Easter Joy.

A classmate of mine in high school was named Yvonne. That would have been fine, but her parents gave away their pretentious game by pronouncing Yvonne’s name as Wye-vahn.

>>to avoid any nicknames

my nephew, born in 1980, has the first name Travis and the middle name Andrew. His parents didn’t want him to have a name you could make a nickname out of—though Travis could be Trav, I guess. He prefers to go by his middle name,
Andrew. (And all I can think about is the character Andy Travis, the program director on “WKRP in Cincinnati”)

There are several “baby name” urban legends out there, so it could be a hoax. One in particular, I’ve had people swear up and down they had seen it for themselves but I’ve heard it over more than 30 years and 3 different states. ‘

I have, however, encountered plenty of names most people would never choose. Nothing parents would name a child would shock me. Names like Cupcake, or Sangria. Or names with funny spellings, like Conswaylow. A few years ago Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards) became popular. And then there are totally made-up names.

Years ago I was admitting a child, a baby, to the hospital. His name started with a Qu followed by 8 or 10 assorted letters; I had no clue how to pronounce it, so I decided to be clever. I asked the mom, “Well, what do you call him?” The answer: “We call him Boo!”

Try as she might, and with her diseased mind she might, she's not going to able to control what his school friends, his drill instructor, his sergeant, lieutenant, or shipmates are going to call him.

He will also likely be the most beat up kids in the history of his grade school, no one will come to his birthday parties, and his invitation to others' parties will be few.

He's going to be an unhappy kid with the mother he has.

Actually, it's a preborn child, not an unborn child.

It could be narrowed down, I’m sure. Gotta call someone “baby daddy. “ Sounds like a job for Maury Povich.

I worked with a girl whose first name was Maida. She was complaining about her name one day and I had no idea why. She looked at me, exasperated, and said “THINK about it!”

Then it clicked. Her last name: Steele.

You can understand why Peter Fonda was never drafted when you realize the military practice of first name last, last name first.
