WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. -- A hunter in Williamson County could be in the running for one of the largest bucks ever shot in America. (snip)
...conservation officers told him they think the buck is 7 to 9 years old, weighs around 265 pounds alive, and could have as many as 51 scoreable points.

I had a photo of myself standing dwarfed beneath them, wish I knew what became of that.
“one of the largest bucks ever shot in America”
Certainly not by weight.
Mule Deer can get over 450lbs. 300lbs is COMMON for a Mule buck.
And while their antlers don’t typically have as many points, they are thicker and heavier.
And they can kill a hunter that is not alert. Easily.
“The mule deer is the larger of the two Odocoileus species on average, with a height of 80106 cm (3142 in) at the shoulders and a nose-to-tail length ranging from 1.2 to 2.1 m (3.9 to 6.9 ft). Of this, the tail may comprise 11.6 to 23 cm (4.6 to 9.1 in). Adult bucks normally weigh 55150 kg (121331 lb), averaging around 92 kg (203 lb), although trophy specimens may weigh up to 210 kg (460 lb). Does (female deer) are rather smaller and typically weigh from 43 to 90 kg (95 to 198 lb), with an average of around 68 kg (150 lb).[10][11][12][13]”
“Maybe the biggest buck in America this year. “
Not even in the top 100. Or 500.
51 points! That is not a buck, it is a mutant.
The article and news story says "shotgun".
The gauge was not given, nor whether he used shot or slug.
I was being very generous. There was a monster taken just north of Plano, TX this fall that scored over 300 pope and young. 12 pointer.
Maybe low 300’s b &c.
I remember when a bluefish record was within the realm of possibility on the East end of Long Island in the late 60s-early 70s. My buddies and I would fantasize about how many different manufacturers we would claim should we get lucky. We did manage a few in the 20-22 lb range, but sadly a fellow from your area landed a monster in 72.
BTW, given the IGFA rules that were in place at the time, I NEVER believed his account of how he caught that fish. lol
LOL...Great product placement there.
Deer even looks like it enjoyed getting shot.
Bawling... is crying loudly.
Balling is a gay sport, I think.
Just sit over a bag of black oil sunflower seeds
I’m glad I’m not the one that had to drag that thing out of the woods.
begging your pardon
Nice buck....photo staging commercialism very very negative...gives hunters and hunting a bad name imo....
Not close to the archery deer killed in Illinois, I think it was green scored at over 300
Bambi never had a rack like that...
In the past that station mostly hired young reporters right out of local colleges’ “School of Communication”, and the kids are pretty clueless on topics like this. Me too - I am not a deer hunter! But I knew this is (was) a considerably bigger deer than I’ve ever seen, and we have lots of them around here...
“Seriously? Product placement in the pics. “
Back when I was hunting the “product “ would have been Hamms beer cans.
45's and LP's are "records"....You know, the round vinyl disks that played music on a record player.....LOL!
