The holidays are here, which means its time to debate whether or not the lyrics to Baby, Its Cold Outside are creepy or just crappy and annoying.
According to CNN, Star 102, WDOK-FM, a Cleveland Christmas radio station has decided it wont be playing Baby, Its Cold Outside this year. The 74-year-old song by Guys and Dolls writer Frank Loesser is also known on Urban Dictionary as the Christmas Date Rape Song.
On the stations website, radio host Glenn Anderson explained that the song is no longer appropriate for #MeToo era:
Now, I do realize that when the song was written in 1944, it was a different time, but now while reading it, it seems very manipulative and wrong, he wrote.
The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended, but in a world where #MeToo has finally given women the voice they deserve, the song has no place.
And because it wouldnt be Christmas without a little irrational shouting about how things were better a long time ago but now are different and awful, listeners flocked to Facebook in order to be publicly offended by how easily offended people are these days:
I will not be listening to this station anymore myself if they give in to sensitive people, one woman wrote. The song has been out there for a long time and now it offends people. Come on. This is getting out of hand with all the people that are offended by stuff.
Scrapping traditional songs about cold-weather boning. Another fallen monument in the war on Christmas.
The tyrants are all prudes now. I heard this song is a store today. Sounded good to me. I heard no complaints.
It is NOT a classic Christmas carol-——horrible header.
Not worth reading.
.
I didnt like the sing in the past because it had nothing to do with Christmas.
Now I actually downloaded a copy to play in my car. So thanks a lot, SJWs!
“The tyrants are all prudes now.”
Nope,they just have dirty minds.
.
I love this song. Wish they would ban “All I Want For Christmas Is You”
It is only the 5th of December and I want to scream!!!
We should all call there and request the song. Then call again and request it,,,Over and over.
Reading the lyrics, its not a Christmas song.
It has nothing to do with Christmas other than it being cold outside!
don’t like baby it’s cold outside, I did have an episode with a creeper years back and this song was part of the experience, but I just think it’s a goofy song - and people who need it banned have much bigger problems than this song and should NOT be catered to because it only enables them futher and the rest of us shouldn’t have to be limited by their problems.
SONG I’d rather they ban from ever playing again - “we are the world - Feed the world”
It is jokingly referred to as the “date rape song” today.
But, the lyrics, written in a more innocent time (maybe), don’t say that at all.
Wasn;t it written and sung by Loesser AND his WIFE? That’s what I understand.
In any event the “Pound Me,Too” crowd is wrong on this one.
Progressive snowflakes are destroying everything. It is better off if none of us get out of bed. At least then maybe no one will be offended by something we said or did during the day.
“Baby It’s Cold Outside” is NOT a “Christmas carol”. It’s a song about cold weather. It NEVER mentions Christmas, nor do a number of other songs about winter that have been labeled “Christmas” songs. Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, Let it Snow, none of them mention Christmas. As a matter of fact, neither does “jingle Bells”.
And when did peppermint stick ice cream become a “Holiday flavor”? We used to be able to buy it in July when it was wonderfully refreshing.
It isn’t a Christmas song, and I don’t understand it they way the critics do. Did the male singer slip her a mickey, or did he just pour a strong drink?
But let’s assume for a moment that the snowflakes are right. When should we expect them to cut loose on hip hop, rap, and a lot of rock and roll and ban them from the airwaves?
That’s not a classic Christmas carol.
But this is just the start.
"Say what's in this drink?"
A Bill Cosby special?
I find “Let’s Get Drunk and Screw” much more acceptable.
Not to mention numerous cRAP songs about Ho’s and killing cops and screwing, etc.
Just another snowflake attack on what they consider to be White culture.
