On Feb. 9, 2014, Culbreath -- then 21 -- was driving her 2013 Chevrolet Camaro east down the freeway’s westbound lanes when she slammed head-on into a 1998 Ford Explorer carrying three generations of a Huntington Park family, authorities said.
All four of the Explorer's occupants were ejected from the vehicle and died. They were identified as Gregorio Mejia-Martinez, 47; his wife, Leticia Ibarra, 42; their daughter, Jessica Jasmine Mejia, 20; and Jessica’s grandmother, Ester Delgado.
The crash also killed Culbreath's two passengers, her older sister Maya Louise Culbreath, 24, and 21-year-old Kristin Melissa Young, a close friend and the defendent's son's godmother.
A 57-year-old man in a third vehicle involved in the horrific wreck suffered minor injuries. Witnesses reported the Camaro had been traveling in excess of 100 mph shortly before the crash.

On its face, that doesn’t seem like the usual outcome when a sedan collides head-on with an SUV. Except the Camaro weighs 3740 lbs vs the Explorer’s 3692 lbs. And the SUV’s occupants were presumably not wearing their seat belts.
Culbreath? From the article it sounded more like DUIbreath.
Another article says she pled not guilty. This one says she pled nolo contendre. If so, why did it take four years?
Seems a lot of time. The killed deserve some fault because they weren’t wearing seatbelts.
Two prior DUI incidents and she was warned then about future murder charges if she did it again.

The dead Cop deserved some fault because he wasn’t wearing his Bullet Proof Vest.

Nope. You have no responsibility to retreat from aggression. The aggressor holds all responsibility.
Legally you are required in most states to wear your seatbelts. Not sure there is corresponding laws regarding seat belts.
And certain drugs should be legalized because???? Because they are certain to be handled more responsibly than other legal drugs - alcohol - that some people have a problem with? I don’t think so.
Fair would be 30 years for each death she caused and 15 for the injured man.
I was feeling sorry for her until I got to the part in the article where this was her third DUI offense - and she was only 17 when she got her first!
Had the DRUNK not been there they would be alive today, Seat Belts or no Seat Belts. That’s the point.
Besides, at the speed the two Vehicles were traveling there is no guarantee that anyone would have survived anyway.

WHY NOT?

Here in NJ they are fairly lenient with DUI (it isn’t a “crime” but a driving offense), and even here she’d lose her license for 2 years after the second.
No, that's taking it to extremes. Just like you, I drive everyday among too many fools. Most of the time when I read about traffic deaths, bad or even not so bad accidents end up fatalities because the injured was not wearing their seatbelt.
It's not my fault if someone runs into me, but if I won't take the simple safety act of wearing my seatbelt, the enhancements to the injuries I receive are my fault. I turned what could have been simple bruising from the seatbelt restraining me into broken bones or whatever.
I wasn’t questioning the use of Seat Belts.
I was only responding to your OP which IMHO took the blame off the frigging Drunken Murderer and put it on the Victims.
As I stated, we have no idea whether the People involved would have survived the impact, Seat Belts or not. In addition to the other Cars occupants, two people died in the Drunken Murderer’s Car and the story was not clear as to whether they were wearing Seat Belts or not.
My late Father was an Alcoholic, and I would never cut him any slack if he caused the deaths of others because he was frigging Drunk.
BTW - I always use my Seat Belts, and I grew up in a day and age where Seat Belts were a novelty.
