The Navy will honor former naval aviator and 41st president George H.W. Bush on Thursday with a largest-ever 21-aircraft missing man formation as part of his funeral services in Texas. Thirty F/A-18 Hornets and Super Hornets departed Naval Air Station Oceana, Va. today ahead of the Dec. 6 internment ceremony at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum in College Station, Texas. A naval aviation official told USNI News that a missing man formation of this size is unprecedented and reflects Bushs legacy as a naval aviator and ongoing relationship with the Navys carrier strike group community.

Nothing to do with the discussion at hand but at one point when I was young in the early 90s I lived on Oceana NAS in the old family housing that got torn down many years ago and always I heard the planes take off and land plus see planes like the old F 14 tomcat back then, I kinda miss those days.
This stuff is just getting gross. Nothing against Bush, but this stuff is getting blasphemous.
“It would be cool to have one [Avenger torpedo bomber] do that [a fly over at ex-pres. Bush’s funeral].”
It would be even cooler to have them all, or even just the standard missing man formation of WWII TBD/TBM do a flyover, but the planes are scattered to the four winds, with different owners, so I do not think there is time to arrange it. Another possibility: have just one Avenger do the flyover, and time the flyover of the Navy’s missing man formation so that the two flyovers pass over the funeral site at the same time.
Oops. Avenger TBF/TBM.
"TBM" - the "M" denotes the manufacturer - General Motors; whereas the "TBF" was made by Grumman.
Wildcat - F4F, Hellcat - F6F ... were made by Grumman.
Another example: PBY-5 ("Patrol Bomber" made by Consolidated, 5th version. The last ones made were PBY-6's).
Interesting way of putting it.
There’s really not much in between the two. One can hope to be steadfast and firm with whichever is facing them.
Brother’s in arms who have faced the latter, are competitive with one anther to insure the next time they walk away, again.
It is “as iron sharpens iron”, I think, that the former occurs.
Then we separate/retire from service and life becomes “normal”. Ewww.
We were living next to the Reagan Library when he died. The fly-over for his funeral was impressive, and it was small compared to this. I would love to watch this tomorrow in person! [chills]
Outstanding....Ex-POTUS, George H. W. Bush deserves this grand honor & tribute from his U.S. Military brothers & sisters and “All’ the American people!!!
You can bet either your last dollar, or your last penny, the neither Ex-POTUS, Democrat, William Jefferson Clinton or Democrat, Barack Hussein Obama will never, ever receive such respect, honor and recognition. And, these two low life, ego maniacs deserve nothing...and that’s a 100% ditto for both their useless wives, Hillary & Michelle. SATAN & the Devil, himself awaits the the arrival of all four of them. Sad days for the USA!!!
Wonderful tribute to President Bush...
I decry the death of the editorial function in the online environment.
internment = imprisonment or confinement
interment = burial
Yes, it was a great design; very appropriate to its time.
Agree! Even though you held back a bit.
