Cats seem more intelligent they make humans their servants in return for doing nothing.

Dogs are smart enough to learn how to do things for their owners.
Cats are smart enough to find humans to serve their whims.

Cats being aloof indicates equal intelligence with attentive dogs. Maybeso, but I know which I prefer. I’ll add that while this maybe correct on a species comparison, I have NEVER encountered a cat smarter than the smartest dog.

If you want “smart” in a non-primate mammal, look no further than the common barnyard swine. While pigs have a reputation for being obstinate and greedy, with questionable personal hygiene, they are really quite adept at determining ways to escape confinement, or to find unusual food sources.
Contrary to popular opinion, however, pigs do not fly. They will have nothing to do with going through the scrutiny the TSA directs on the helpless masses.

Researchers used data on observations of the behaviour of dogs, cats, wolves and chimpanzees... I would have thought that researchers would realize that wolves are the same species as domestic dogs. Just descendants of dogs who realized that hanging out with the hairless two legs brought all kinds of benefits.
Until they invented spaying and neutering.

I’ve read that adult domestic cats have about the same intelligence as a toddler, which is an interesting comparison.

You must not have any dogs. Dogs train their humans fairly quickly; at least the trainable ones.
I knew there would be studies coming out about how smart cats are and how they are smarter than dogs when the first one came out a few months ago showing how dogs are twice as smart as cats.
I don’t know which species is smarter but I do know dogs earn their supper as watchdogs or working dogs whereas a cat’s sole function is to be a companion.
It reminds me of a saying I once heard. Women and cats will do as they please so men and dogs should just get used to it. It was from another time of course. Before PC. (BPC?)

I would think it would depend on the individual dog.
I have had some really smart dogs and some really dumb ones.
Imagine if the study were of humans and they chose Occasional-Cortex as their test sample.................

Dogs need interaction, they’re thrilled to learn things and to please their people. At least most are lol, some aren’t. Cats just don’t give a flip unless it’s feeding time, or at least most don’t. I know which form of intelligence I prefer in a companion animal. I don’t dislike cats or at least indoor cats that are well behaved, have known a few that were sweet, nice animals. Outdoor cats I do dislike, in neighborhood settings anyway, they track up your vehicles, mark territory on your front doormat and bury their crap in your landscaping mulch. I greatly prefer dogs, personally.
