SC inmates targeted military members in 'sextortion,' stole $560,000
The inmates pretended to be women on online dating sites. Once they got their victims, they'd tell the service members that they'd just committed a crime.
Columbia, SC (WLTX) — Officials say inmates in South Carolina prisons used contraband cell phones to target military service members across the country in 'sextortion' schemes
Officials say South Carolina inmates, aided by outside associates, identified and targeted military service members through social media and online dating sites. Using fictitious personas, officials say inmates engaged in online romantic relationships with service members, exchanging pictures with the targets and then extorting them for money.
The inmates posed as females to initiate relationships with service members. Once the service members were hooked in and exchanging picture, inmates would then assume the role of the female's father and or police officers. They'd tell the service members that the person they'd been taking to was an underage girl, and that they were in legal trouble. It was at that point that the inmates would demanded money in exchange for not pressing charges.
Fearful they would lose their careers over what they were led to believe was possession of child pornography, officials say 442 service members across the country lost more than $560,000 in the sextortion scheme.
"Every week, we see another example of why cell phones should be blocked," said Corrections Director Bryan Stirling. "[The inmates] are physically incarcerated, but virtually they're out there among us. They're on the internet, they're able to continue their schemes from behind bars and continue their criminal ways."
Stirling has repeatedly pressed Congress to change laws to allow prisons to block cell phones signals of inmates over the years.
In the first phase of "Operation Surprise Party," officials say they indicted 15 people, served 5 arrest warrants and 5 summonses and interviewed 15 inmates in South and North Carolina.
Authorities say more than 250 additional people are being investigated and may also face charges in the scheme.
Not as loose as the prison they’re going to be going to next.

No, I don't believe any of that is going to happen. If it does I'll be amazed and thrilled, but I don't think those claims are real.
I have been hoping for the visible government to push back on the Deep State Coup, at least. We have plenty of evidence of what was done, and it's horrific. The spies planted in the Trump campaign, the use of foreign intelligence services to try to prevent Trump's election, and then bring him down. The targeting of Trump campaign officials with CIA style "dangle operations".
Knowing about all this stuff is "conventional" in my terms. You know the most about it if you read the Conservative Treehouse and National Review's Andrew McCarthy and a couple of reporters at The Federalist.
What we know about that, again conventionlly, not requiring anyone to have ever read a single Q post, should be enough to be arresting people and charging them with crimes.
But instead, it sure looks like the Deep State still controls enough levers of power to protect their own, and prevent any real hay from being made of all the horrible illegal acts of Obama/Clinton.
I'll give one simple example. Andrew McCabe was fired by Sessions (his one brave act as AG) after an OIG review showed that he had been leaking to the press, for his own purposes, having nothing to do with his official duties.
The OIG referred McCabe's case to a career prosecutor. In a Justice Department committed to justice one would expect the orders to come down from on-high to "make the case".
That "proprietorial discretion" thing runs both ways, after all. And presumably in a wobbler the jury will get it right.
But we haven't seen that. McCabe is free as a bird, and as time rolls on it becomes clear we won't ever even hear anything *about* it. Why the case wasn't made? Who decided not to prosecute McCabe after he was fired for wrong-doing?
Now that's one of dozens of examples that are out there, but they all lead to the same conclusion. Trump lacks the power to punish people. He can't even punish the most obviously guilty (found so by the OIG), much less to punish his enemies (even politically).
That sucks, but I don't see how one can draw any other conclusion.
It is an article of faith among Q believers that soon, any time now, just around the corner, I've even heard Dec. 1, but if not then, soon .... that JUSTICE will finally be coming to town. Because of the stuff that Q has laid out,
Nothing can stop what is coming, nothing.
But, sadly, my view is that "nothing is coming", and that's the best case for Trump.
The worst case is that the witch hunt hits pay dirt, and Trump's position goes from bad to worse.
Trump has a new AG. Why no Independent Counsel? (Again, this doesn't require Q knowledge to say that SpyGate is going to get a IC to look into it, or UraniumOne is going to get an IC to look into it, or the Clinton Foundation is going to get an IC to look into it.
Conventional knowledge of these has already provided ample evidence to support this, but we still don't have it.
One explanation is "Q is waiting to do it all at once". Sure that's possible, but other than Q's own postings there isn't much supporting that view.
If we are still sitting here in December with all of Trump's enemies unindicted will you still be saying "Trust the Plan"
Sure, there is a little, a very little, time for something big to be pulled off. It's not the best time, that would have been July or so, to help the midterms, but anytime before the Dems take power would be good.
I wonder how many people here will ever be able to admit that Q's predictions never happened. I think many will not.
It sort of reminds me of millennialist religious sects. Even when William Miller's predictions of the Second Coming proved to be false, many people were so committed to the vision that they founded a church around the failed predictions. They referred to the fact that Christ did not appear as predicted as "The Great Disappointment", and adjusted their religious beliefs around it. "We were not worthy", "not enough people believed" "we must try harder".
I think we're headed to "The Great Disappointment II" and the Free Republic Q thread devotees are the founders of the religion of Q that will carry on after Donald J. Trump's term is over, without the Q events ever coming to pass.
People will be here explaining that "not enough people believed" and other things of that sort, just like the Seventh Day Adventists (direct descendants of the Millerites) do today.

Trump's almost 1/2 way through his first term. At the rate he's going it's not looking like he's going to get a second, so I hope he can do something about the corruption in the next two years.
Of course even if he fails I will always think he did great things in so many areas, but if he fails to hold anyone accountable for ObamaGate and election fraud then it will have been a short interregnum before the dark curtain of permanent Democrat rule descends on us.
Very few people, perhaps no one else, could survive what he's had to as POTUS.
