The San Francisco 49ers announced on Sunday morning that they are releasing inside linebacker Reuben Foster after the former Alabama All-American was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence on Saturday night.

Foster spent the night at the Hillsborough County Jail awaiting a video bail hearing on Sunday morning.

According to the Tampa Police Department report on the arrest, officers responded to a domestic-violence call at the Grand Hyatt, where the 49ers were staying before Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The woman involved in Saturday night’s incident is Elissa Ennis, whose charges led to Foster’s arrest in February for felony domestic violence. She later recanted her complaints to police, and the charge was dropped.

Tampa Police officers found Foster and a woman involved in a “verbal altercation.” Ennis told police that Foster had knocked her phone from her hand, pushed her in the chest and slapped her in the face.

On Feb. 11, Foster was arrested in Los Gatos, California, and charged with felony domestic violence, forcefully attempting to prevent a victim from reporting a crime and possession of an assault weapon.

A judge dismissed two of those charges after Ennis testified she made up her allegations against Foster and reduced the weapons charge from a felony to a misdemeanor on May 23.

On June 6, Foster pleaded no contest in Santa Clara County Superior Court to unlawful possession of an assault weapon and was sentenced to community service and two years of probation.

The NFL suspended Foster for the first two games of the 2018 regular season for violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy and its Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse.

Foster also had been arrested in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 12 and charged with second-degree possession of marijuana. The marijuana charge was dismissed in May after Foster participated in a pretrial diversion program.

Foster was Alabama's Class 6A Lineman of the Year for the 2012 season at Auburn High School. He won the Butkus Award as the nation's best collegiate linebacker in 2016 at Alabama.

Foster made the Pro Football Writers Association's All-Rookie team for the 2017 season after the 49ers traded up to select him with the 31st pick in last year's draft, even though injuries caused him to miss six games.

Hampered by shoulder and hamstring injuries this season, Foster hasn't had the same impact for the 49ers in 2018. He missed the previous two games with a hamstring injury.

Some Auburn kids never leave their Auburn ways, even if they wind up playing for Bama. :)

I hope he gets his life together and doesn’t end up like Lawrence Phillips, from Nebraska.

I’m not defending domestic violence, but I find it interesting that in the NFL one charge of misdemeanor domestic violence costs you your job, but police? not so much. Which one carries a gun as a regular part of their job and is responsible for making decisions in stressful situations?

To be precise, "arrested and charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence"

Both he & the woman are guilty of First Degree Stupidity for staying around each other.

I wonder how much of this behavior was covered up while he was playing in college. I don’ think a person becomes a person who beats women when he gets to the NFL. Given the University he played at, which has a reputation to put winning at “all costs”, I would not be surprised if this type of behavior was covered up by his Coach and University administrators while he was in college.

It’s about publicity. Companies have a vested interest in public goodwill. Cops don’t.

The only reason he was released:

“Hampered by shoulder and hamstring injuries this season, Foster hasn’t had the same impact for the 49ers in 2018. He missed the previous two games with a hamstring injury.”

Not a fan of the NFL, but this is BS. She recanted and the charges were dropped and he will likely be banned by the NFL without due process.

The guys a knuckle head for sure. He got himself kicked out of the NFL combine for failing to comply with the medical staff during the physical.

My understanding of the previous claim she made that she recanted, is that he had an alibi and they had proof that she was lying. They only found his weapons based upon this false claim and he was charged for that.

The Niner’s have a zero tolerance policy after the whole Aldon Smith debacle.

Randy Moss would tell him to stay in house and not hang out with anybody. That’s pretty much what he ended up doing.
