Dennis Prager's defense of saying "Merry Christmas"
Just Say “Merry Christmas” by Dennis Prager

Saying Merry CHRISTMAS needs no defense.
If someone says happy holidays to me, I always respond with Merry Christmas.
I was somewhere the other day and saw a big 40 foot long Merry Christmas banner outside o business.
Cool
I got no problem saying Happy Holidays to people I dont know that well.
Why would I tell someone who might be Jewish “Merry Christmas”?
Now if I was a store owner, give the majority of religious here are Christian, I would go with the odds and have a Merry Christmas sign out front.
As long as the govt doesn’t abridge our or any institution’s Right to say it or display it, that’s what matters.
But if someone I dont know so well says happy holidays, i will say the same back.
I don’t need to PROVE anything. And I would think someone an idiot if they said “Happy Hanukkah” to me, not knowing my religious beliefs.
I do. I see no reason to have to worry about someone else’s belief system before talking to them.
If I know they are Jewish, I may wish them Happy Hanukkah, but I expect them to reciprocate with a Merry Christmas.
I’m done being politically correct.
Hanukkah ought to be OK to knowledgeable Christians. It appears in the New Testament as the Festival of Lights.
A holiday dedicated to goodwill to EVERYBODY (whether or not they are Christian) is such an obvious boon that it takes Grinches to hate it.
Last year, I was attending a local “parade of lights”. Kids on the float said happy holidays. I responded, “Merry Christmas!” and was reprimanded that this was exclusive, religious, and otherwise unacceptable.
So yes, it does need defense.
Just curious, who did the PC reprimanding?
I’m just short of “Merry Christmas! You got a problem with that?”
And just what does a Nativity scene depict, other than a nice Jewish family of the House of David?
Not a problem. I never wish others a "Happy Birthday" when it is MY birthday.
ML/NJ
The few muslim guys I have worked with over the years have always wished me a Merry Christmas. I am not sure why the libs get their knickers in a a twist about saying the word Christmas. They act like a demon being sprayed with holy water in the movies.
I just say "In the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen!"
Otherwise, I say Merry Christmas.
I’m not knowledgeable NOR much of a Christian for that matter. :)
So i don’t want to hear it said to me :)
Have an average festivus.
There are plenty of folks here who would be able to discuss Christianity with you, including me if you’d like to give it some consideration.
Several kids on the float that I’d wished “Merry Christmas” to.
It’s never too late to chuck out the bah humbug :-).
Jesus came into the world to offer it an astonishing Gift. If someone wished me a happy Hanukkah, I’d respond “Happy Hanukkah and God bless you.” Things that are about God have this odd way of rhyming even when people don’t totally understand what is going on.
Just Say "Merry Christmas"
Should Americans wish each other "Happy holidays" or "Merry Christmas"? Should an office "Christmas party" be called a "holiday party" so that it's more inclusive? Dennis Prager answers these questions and more in this short video.
It all started with Bing Crosby singing Happy Holidays.
