Since it’s clear that Daniel Craig (the sixth actor to officially play Bond since 1962) has one foot out the door of the Aston-Martin, the conversation about diversifying 007 has been happening in earnest. Is one of Hollywood’s oldest properties ready for a reboot?
A new survey, conducted by Morning Consult and the Hollywood Reporter, asked 2,201 U.S. adults how they would feel about the fictional spy shifting demographics: from British to American, from male to female, from straight to gay, or from Caucasian to another ethnicity. The results show that a narrow majority support a black James Bond and most approve of a U.S.-born Bond — but the idea of a female, Hispanic, Asian or gay Bond is still hard for most Americans to wrap their heads around.
According to the data, 49 percent of American adults support the idea of a black actor playing Bond. When asked specifically if fan favorite (and 2018’s Sexiest Man Alive) Idris Elba should play the character, 36 percent of men and 43 percent of women surveyed said, “Yes, please!”
But what about making the character a different ethnicity? Perhaps without someone as obvious as Elba in mind, the participants were more tepid about a Hispanic Bond (19 percent of adults strongly support this casting) or an Asian Bond (17 percent of adults strongly support the change).
There has also been a lot of discussion in film circles about the possibility of a female Bond. Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli recently said she’s against it, and survey participants seem to agree. …

They’ve already had two Englishmen, a Scot, a Welshman, an Irishman and an Aussie portraying Bond. How much bleedin’ diversity do they need?
All seriousness aside, I love Idris Elba but I’ve never seen any evidence he could do any accent except Cockney. And it’s nothing racial, Sean Bean is a highly successful (white) actor and he couldn’t do any accent other than Tyke if his life depended on it.
I just don’t think the world at large is ready for a 007 who talks like David Beckham.
They also like to take Christmas carols and change the words to sell products.

You’re politicizing it just like others on the other side. Either it’s a quality movie or not. The current cookie cutter is bordering on ridiculous. If Bond is bowman or black and the movie is greta than more power to them.
I like my idea of niece bond, butI all like idris and Michale B Jordan.
Probably the same number who support a transgendered shark in the next Sharknado, but are not nearly as onboard with a Yiddish or obese shark.
Bond...without an English accent? Nevah! If they want to go black, Idris Elba is the first one who comes to my mind. I didn’t read the article, though. Was the other option, female? Because that would be absurd, and a HUGE NO!

The fictional character James Bond is white.
Black Dynamite is one of my favorite comedies. The show In Living Color also did a great spoof in which the protagonist was “Bond. Darnell Bond.”
Anything British is on my boycott list. That goes for anything black or white or in between.
Every poll relies on the fact that roughly half of the respondants are drooling morons enslaved by mass media, advertising hype, and the “latest trends”.
