Please restrict comments & recommendations to compact 9mm handguns such as the Ruger EC9s. I might (might!) consider a .357 or a 38 special if the size & weight & cost can be held down. The Millennium G2 is the maximum I would want to go on size and weight. Cost should be $220 before tax, maximum, but I would consider a low use firearm to help keep the cost reasonable. (I also have to consider ammo and accessories, and $300 for all is really pushing it. Saving to spend more is out if firearm taxes go up substantially -- one proposal of new governor-elect.)

Note however that it has been suggested to me that light revolvers firing powerful cartridges may cylinder-jam, so a light .357 revolver might not be such a great idea.

Of the 9mm compact handguns "on my list", my notes are:

Taurus Millennium G2 $200, but sold out locally as of 11/25/18

•WEIGHT:20.8 oz. •CALIBER/GAUGE:9mm •CAPACITY:12+1 •# OF MAGS:2 •MAGAZINE DESC:12 rd. •BARREL:3.2" •OVERALL LENGTH:6.2" -- The Ruger LCP 38 fit my hand very well, so is this "a bit big"? Warranty and repair issues could be problematic. (See prev. thread.)

SCCY CPX-1. $210.00. Lifetime warranty. Made in USA!

•WEIGHT:15 oz. •CALIBER/GAUGE:9mm •CAPACITY:10+1 •# OF MAGS:2 •MAGAZINE DESC:10 rd. •BARREL:3.1" •OVERALL LENGTH:5.7" -- The two 10 round magazines are a plus.

Ruger EC9s $210 - in stock locally 11/25/18

•Caliber: 9MM •Finish: Black Oxide, blued •Action: Striker Fired, Short, Light, Crisp Trigger •Barrel Length: 3.12 •Overall Length: 6 •Weight: 17.20 oz •Capacity: 7+1 •# of Mags: 1 -- This should be the most reliable, but, a few reviews suggest issues with corrosion even if regularly oiled / maintained.

Given the above parameters, what do FReepers think?

Well, that did not format quite as planned - hope it’s reasonably readable for all!

I have an EC9s. The trigger is very good. I’ve put over 1000 rounds through it with a variety of ammo and have not had even a single problem.

CPX 2 (CPX 1 without safety) has a trigger pull very similar to a s&w double action revolver, smooth and long. SCCY service is unbeatable. Expect a break-in period.

If you intend use “shot shell” or “snake shell” loads you want a revolver.

Interesting, I'll have to check it out. I need a compact, my Glock G19 just doesn't quite fit right in my motorcycle vest.

I'm currently struggling with my own debate with myself over a compact 45 or a compact 9mm. The CPX-1 does sound intriguing though.

I actually own both weapons.

The LC9 is my pocket carry, while I keep the Taurus in my work van as added backup.

The only issue I have with the LC9 is that the American made Mags tend to fall out of the weapon if you bump it. This is a pretty well known issue with the weapon. The solution was to buy Italian made mags. While easy to conceal, there is only a 7 round capacity to the mags.

The Taurus is a double stack mag with a 12 round capacity, but it is a more bulky weapon, but it is still fairly easy to conceal.

Either weapon is a good choice. Depends on what you intend/how to use it.

I am glad you waved off on the .380 ACP, not that it is not effective.
It is a short 9mm x 17mm, but you can get 9mm x 19mm Nato cheaper and it is just as concealable

"Ruger EC9s vs. SCCY CPX-1 vs. Taurus Millennium G2"

The chief problem is that none of 'em is a Glock.

I really love my Walther PPS. It's my carry pistol. I guess you can classify it as a compact based on it's dimensions, which, I'll list. Specs are from Wiki. I did not personally verify. I have three different capacity mags.

Weight 550 g (19.4 oz) empty

Length 160.5 mm (6.32 in)

Barrel length 81 mm (3.2 in)

Width 27 mm (1.1 in) (including controls)

Height 112 mm (4.4 in) (small magazine)

124 mm (4.9 in) (medium magazine)

134 mm (5.3 in) (large magazine)

One feature that is kind of unique is the mag release, which is integrated in to the trigger guard. Also, you can visibly see if a cartridge is chambered thru a viewing slot towards the rear of the barrel. It works well with a Forbus holster. Believe it or not, it's also avail chambered in .40 S&W. Cheers!
