Police initially said Bradford opened fire after an altercation with the 18-year-old and an officer fatally shot him as he fled the scene. But late Friday, police changed that story, saying that while Bradford was involved in some aspect of the altercation and was armed with a handgun, he likely did not fire the rounds that injured the two others.
Police do not know how the confrontation began but dont believe the 18-year-old who was hurt was armed, they said. A gunman opened fire, shooting the teenager twice in the torso, according to police.
An armed Hoover police officer who was working security at the mall then confronted an armed man running away from the scene and fatally shot him, authorities said.
A 12-year-old girl described by police as a bystander was shot once, but its unclear by whom, Rector said. Both of the injured were taken to hospitals.

Oy! I guess the situation was a lot more ‘fluid’ than first reported.
Don't draw your weapon until you know the threat is near.
Holster or drop your weapon as LEOs draw near.
Don't take the chance on being mistaken for the bad guy!
“Note to the would-be good guys with a gun:
Don’t draw your weapon until you know the threat is near.
Holster or drop your weapon as LEOs draw near.
Don’t take the chance on being mistaken for the bad guy!”
... and don’t run from the police.
Maybe he was one of the bad guys?
Well that’s just some awesome police work there.
I was surprised that there weren’t more dead when I read that numerous folks drew guns when the shooting started. You don’t want to be holding a gun when polo arrives at an active shooting scene.
That’s popo....
Photos show they found a weapon on the floor near the “Santa’s Village.” But haven’t heard if it has been tied to Bradford or not. I wonder if they’ve tested the weapon, and done a powder residue test yet on Bradford.
If they ever catch this guy, they should try him, convict him and then publicly hang him. Maybe they can do the last part in Mississippi, so that state’s Democrats will (re)discover the difference between a public hanging and one of their own mob lynchings.
Someone better check on Francisco Franco.
Sometimes it takes a while to figure what happened when all the witnesses either lie or “didn’ see nuffin’.
I know. If they ever catch him he’ll do some jail time and get out later. Shootings in malls or large venues like this (whether you get in a fight and decide to off your homey or come in wanting to do a random mass shooting) should be dealt with as a terroristic act against citizens of the USA. No criminal lawyers...you go before a military tribunal. Either get shot at a firing squad or go to Gitmo for life. I myself would take the firing squad.
“....Gitmo for life. I myself would take the firing squad.”
You ever been to GITMO? It’s a pretty nice Caribbean island. And military prisons are MUCH nicer than other similar facilities....
