You are right! Any remake of BTTF would probably crash at the box office.
They know their target market; this bread-and-circuses fluff is for the last bastions of low-IQ sheeple that look to movie and TV screens for entertainment. You notice this when you see NFL commercials targeting blacks, Asian women (the “watcher” goofiness), etc.; they’ve written off smarter people who turned off TV a long time ago - and they’re never coming back. The internet provides custom-made entertainment for any willing to look for it; no reason to be force-fed commercials/advertising/social engineering.
You didn’t miss much. About the most relevant part, which in retrospect makes me shake my head, was Libyan terrorists seeking the assistance of the time machine inventor to build a nuke, whereupon they come seeking retribution for the plutonium they gave him (which he used to power his time machine) in exchange for “a shoddy bomb casing full of used pinball machine parts” as the character puts it.
No sarcasm, that would be the script for real. 8>(
It is a requirement today that all movies be "woke" even if it affects the bottom line.
I was reading an article about the popularity of movies from the 80s with young people today who enjoyed them precisely because they weren't politically correct.
Ballad of Buster Scruggs on Netflix is worth watching though....very dry but entertaining ...

I don’t think most audiences want to see “remakes” of classic films, an addition chapter, maybe, but not a liberal “remake”.
Those movies, like others of the era, were made to ENTERTAIN people...movies they make now are to INDOCTRINATE people into accepting SJW ideals, gays, transvestites, gender-benders, and socialists.
I won’t even watch the remake of “Flight of the Phoenix”, or, “The Time Machine”.
