Tonight, ABC aired the classic animated Peanuts special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and while many fans tuned in for the warmth of nostalgia to kick off their holiday season, many came away with a less than fuzzy feeling when it came to how one specific character was treated.
The special centers around a somewhat impromptu holiday meal that happens when Peppermint Patty invites herself and several others over to Charlie Brown and Sally's house for Thanksgiving despite the fact that they're preparing to go to their grandmother's for the feast. After a little help from Linus, who convinces Charlie they can have two Thanksgivings, as well as Woodstock and Snoopy who do the cooking, a friends' Thanksgiving is on.
The meal -- buttered toast, pretzel sticks, popcorn, jelly beans, and an ice cream sundae -- is served at a table in the backyard, and while all's well that ends well with everyone ending up invited to Charlie and Sally's grandmother's meal, it's the seating arrangements at this unusual dinner that has some fans on social media heated. Franklin, the one and only black friend in the group, is seated by himself on one side of the table while the other is crowded with the rest of the friends. On top of that, he's sitting in a lawn chair as opposed to everyone else's proper furniture.
It's... not a good look, which viewers were quick to point out. Many felt the scene was in bad taste at a minimum and racist at worse, with most settling into the idea that the special simply hasn't aged well. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving first aired on November 20, 1973 on CBS where it aired every year until 2000. In 2001, it moved to ABC with the rest of the Peanuts specials and has continued to air annually.
Dems in congress will need to form a panel to investigate this.
if I remember correctly the editors gave Shultz a lot of grief at the time he introduced franklin when questioned about the scene Shultz said there was no conscience thought about where franklin was sitting.
What is Cindy Sheehan doing in that comic? Oh wait, my mistake, it’s Peppermint Patty.
He’s special.
He’s got everyone’s attention as they are all looking at him.
I really stopped giving a d**n.
Not only that, but Charlie Brown is sitting on one end of the table ALL BY HIMSELF! Is he being ostracized because of his oversized head??? I’m deeply offended!
Are you saying this scene, in last nights showing, was altered? Or, this posted graphic of the scene?
Just trying to clarify.
Also, do you happen to have a link to the unaltered original that you referenced?
Thanks much.

I’m more upset that Abdul Mohamed refused Patty’s invitation. There’s an empty table setting so it must be Abdul’s place, right?
Why should they care? They stated they hate Thanksgiving so why are they even watching?
Add Trump. He likes seconds on dessert.
The sad part is that the Franklin character was introduced during a time when segregation was a real thing, and outraged a lot of readers for showing a black kid going to school with whites.
Franklin was also never treated like “the black kid,” he was just one of the gang.
So at the time, Peanuts was on the forefront of the civil rights movement and Charles Schulz made a very progressive statement.
Now, it’s being called “racist.” By a bunch of no-nothing SJW’s who were never there during on the front lines of the civil rights struggle and wouldn’t know real racism if it hit them.
Are you kidding me?
To the Left we are all just members of a race which overshadows anything else that one might think important about us. Thus the Left demands that white individuals repent of the racial guilt of their "community" and pay fierce lip service to the Left's obsession with race--or else we are condemned as "racist". The Left also demands that blacks credit the Left's obsession with racial quotas and affirmative action and such with anything they accomplish in life, and encourage them to given up and just blame society and live on hand outs if they have any set backs.
The Left is divisive, smug, arrogant, blind and soul destroying. They make everything they touch about dividing us into subhuman tribes that they are the referees over.
Those of us on the right who have not been too contaminated by the Left's obsession with dividing us by race would never have noticed that petty perceived slight on behalf of Franklin. Who we see as a boy rather than a member of the black victimhood tribe.
The correct headline would be:
Liberals fooled into outrage over fake picture......again.
I just went to the original videotape. The picture with Franklin sitting on his own is accurate. Other chairs appear and disappear in various frames but no one sits next to him.
I think they are overreacting and reading race nonsense into something that didn’t have it...but the picture itself is accurate.
Watch around the 8:26 mark.
