American 'killed in India by endangered Andamans tribe'
BBC ^ | 11/22/18 | BBC

Posted on 11/21/2018 5:21:10 PM PST by waterhill

An American man has been killed by an endangered tribe in India's Andaman and Nicobar islands. Fishermen who took the man to North Sentinel island say tribespeople shot him with arrows and left his body on the beach. He has been identified as John Allen Chau, a 27 year old from Alabama. Contact with the endangered Andaman tribes living in isolation from the world is illegal because of the risks to them from outside disease. Estimates say the Sentinelese, who are totally cut off from civilisation, number only between 50 and 150.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Don’t assume people you want to help want your help.

So God follows man's rules? Is that your testimony?

God said don't be stupid? Book, chapter, verse please. The closest word you will find is "foolish" and the consistent context is unbelief.

If God called him to reach this people, it is neither suicide or stupid. It's obedience.

I've read the article. Whether or not a church supported him means nothing if God called him.

And even if God didn't call him for this people, no where in the Bible will you find man needing to ask for permission to reach a people for Christ. He was obeying the very first commandment to Adam that never changed: subdue the earth. He was living missional. That is what we are called to do, even if it means our lives.

He did his Father's will, and people are butt-hurt over it.

God obeys man now? Really?

It's to the glory of God that the young man was obedient to his Father and gave his life to reconcile a lost people to God.

These times were spoken of by Jesus. This is the same forum that encourages shooting and blowing up illegal aliens, so it's not surprising.

Our very sin nature pulls us into being murderous-- the same nature that led to the death of this man.

Since you have asserted that the proper thing to do with the people of this island is try to convert then regardless of the likely risk to their lives, and to do so even in the absence of such direction from God...

... How soon may we expect a report on your efforts in this area? I’m quite curious to find out how your coming evangelization of these people works out.

I would recommend that you wear light kevlar body armor under your clothes, though. Just a friendly bit of advice.

You have had your eyes opened to the true nature of free Republic I’m sorry It’s not encouraging

The consensus on this subject appears to be “If contacting a primitive, isolated tribe who want to be left alone puts their lives in danger....just leave them alone!”

I find that quite encouraging.

We will disagree about this mans so called ‘calling’. One can ‘believe’ what they will but God does not ‘force’ the gospel message on anyone, which everything I’ve back-read about this event, including his journals, he was doing just that regarding this tribe. Further deceiving the authorities responsible for the safety of this tribe.

The lists of his actions before during and while approaching these people consistently evidences he was unwilling to wait on the Lord. Going forward into a blaze of arrows assured him of death...and he knew that . That’s more like a suicide mission for his cause.

So we shall disagree about his calling.....

Class of 2017 and proud atheist as per other threads. Funny how they often want you to know that. In their own minds it grants them a veneer of intellectual achievement.

Never did I assert to take on a task for God, without the direction of God. But God has already spoke on this issue, and this young man would hardly be the first missionary to lose his life. History is full of examples of believers that died trying to reach sinners, and others that could have saved their lives by mere recanting of the Gospel, and refused to do so. Nice try.

Risk their lives? Like eternally? Die without Jesus and you are done forever. Hell is too hot and eternity is too long.

God called me to a different people group. Nice try, but you don't seem to understand God.

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

1 Corinthians 1:18-19

I totally understand why this is foolishness to you, and I am concerned for your eternal soul.

"Torch of the Testimony" gives the history of people being martyred while sharing the Gospel. It's nothing new. In fact, it is often the rule for a new people group. Don Richardson wrote about it in "Peace Child."

"For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

- Jesus Christ

(Mark 8:35; Matthew 10:39; Matthew 16:25; Luke 9:24)

The Creator of all things says he's good. I'd leave it in His hands even if we don't understand it.

And yet I didn’t mention a single time on this thread that I am an atheist, because it simply isn’t relevant. For that matter, I’ve been criticized in other threads for not mentioning that I’m an atheist…because not announcing it was somehow considered “deceptive”.

Sometimes you just can’t win.

BTW, I’m not “proud” to be an atheist any more than I’m proud to be bald. It’s simply indicative of the lack of a specific thing; in this case, religious faith.

“You sound like an unsaved person lacking the counsel of God.”

And you sound like an insufferably arrogant d-bag.

Happy Thanksgiving.

But previously, you said:

So why aren’t you subduing these islanders? You don’t need God’s direction in these matters, you have standing orders.

How God calls is not the issue here. Jesus Christ and His gospel is your problem. You are at decision time. God used a servant of his to present you (and billions of others) a gracious opportunity to understand the good news of Christ because He loves you.

Why are you dodging the question?

Jesus Christ and His gospel is your problem. You are at decision time. God used a servant of his to present you (and billions of others) a gracious opportunity to understand the good news of Christ because He loves you.

Why is the Gospel a “problem”? It is one of a multitude of religious texts, none of which I have any belief in.
