According to a report by the Moscow Times, pranksters in Bulgaria are repainting Soviet-era monuments so that Soviet military heroes look like American Superheroes. Needless to say, the Russians are not too happy about it:
Russia is demanding that Bulgaria try harder to prevent vandalism of Soviet monuments, after yet another monument to Soviet troops in Sofia was spray-painted, ITAR-Tass reported.
The Russian Embassy in Bulgaria has issued a note demanding that its former Soviet-era ally clean up the monument in Sofia's Lozenets district, identify and punish those responsible, and take "exhaustive measures" to prevent similar attacks in the future, the news agency reported Monday.
The monument was sprayed with red paint on the eve of the Bulgarian Socialist Party's celebration of its 123rd anniversary, the Sofia-based Novinite news agency reported.
The vandalism was the latest in a series of similar recent incidents in Bulgaria each drawing angry criticism from Moscow
Those are in the United States. These are in Bulgaria, which was dominated by the Soviet Union and resented it. There is no more Soviet Union, but the monuments remain, unwanted.
Albania, I think.
Just tear all the monuments down. Send the pieces to the Soviets, if they want them. These statues should have the same protections given to those of Nazi oppressors.
What are they going to do? Invade? USA USA USA
All the merrier. I haven’t been following Marvel much lately, except movies.
Caption: “Forward!”
One statue now wears the colors of Captain America! I love it!
They should make one in the middle of Lake Michigan, so it looks like he’s walking on water.
Well, the naughty-listers won't much like that PPSh-41 that he's toting. Sort of like the Santa featured in Futurama.
LOL!
Pretty clear from that where the Bulgarians’ sympathies lie.
LOL - you always kill me with the movie references.
My first out-loud laugh of the day. Of course Captain America really did fight the Nazis. Ronald McDonald, though...
While I think the “art” is clever and I can see the humor in it, if someone in France was defacing monuments to American war dead, I would expect a similar response from our governmentperhaps more strongly worded than Obama’s “cut it out”.
And I do understand Bulgarians’ resentment of being kept under the Communist boot for half a century.
Hahahaha. Lighten-up, Igor.
Thats awesome. I cant place the yellow and blue figure on the back left.
And here I thought Bulgaria was a sovereign nation? More proof of what Putin’s real aims are. Ukraine today, Poland tomorrow.
especially when its a kick ass santa with a ppsh and a
belt full of grenades, guess he really does decide whos naughty or nice.., those fn reindeer better get in line too.
Where’s Thor, Ironman, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, etc. They should do Blackhawk. I used to read that comic when I was a kid. Read it because my siblings did. I was the baby, so followed their interests back then.
Bingo. And in the meantime the third largest city in Russia, Novosibirsk, just approved the erecting of a new Stalin statue.
