if your biggest up front point is that they didn’t drink “Kool-Aid” but rather “Flavor-Aid” you’ve lost the argument.

And Jim Jones was a Marxist Democrat player protected by the leftist Democrat establishment in San Francisco and DC.

Apologists trying to make the case for socialist utopias while ignoring the excess and despotism do society a great harm.

And comparing him to Donald Trump and his follower? Pu-lease.

But what do you expect from Robert “Hollywood Red” Redford’s Sundance Channel?

I’m only surprised that it isn’t the pinkos at PBS airing this as they’ve profiled (favorably) the antics of the SLA and Weather Underground.

Spot on, on all that. It’s amazing how few know the Dem links Jim Jones had.

Yup, just another reason to not bother with reading Yahoo.

You could go back to the mayoral election in SF...1975, and Jim Jones with his regional church ‘racket’ helped to defeat the GOP guy....John Barbagelata, and bring George Moscone to power. That one single defeat shifted the base of power in the entire area, and ended the GOP as a player in local politics.

The cult players came in and canvased moderate neighborhoods, and got people enthusiastic about Moscone, and then they brought in busloads....maybe into a couple of thousand non-residents to vote in the city election.

"...These weren’t dummies just falling into place; they really believed in what Jones was preaching. ..."

Uh huh.

And they're dead because of it.

So, yeah, they WERE dumbasses.

The so-called "truth" of Jonestown is just that simple.
