Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is ready to show up Sen. Elizabeth Warren, saying Tuesday he plans to take a DNA test to find out whether he has more Native American heritage than she does.
“I’m going to take a DNA test,” Graham told “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday. “I’ve been told my grandmother was part Cherokee Indian. It may all just be talk.”
Graham said he would reveal the results on the show in a couple weeks.

I have at least two ancestors who came over on the Mayflower, and one who was in Jamestown, my last name traces to a settler in New Netherlands in 1664, but none of those lines seem to have married aboriginal Americans. It might be fun just to try it out. My Nephew took the test, and the only interesting thing was Scandinavian/Danish. His father was Danish, so that doesn’t affect me.

European settlers and aboriginals came into conflict, certainly. Almost all early European accounts of the American aboriginal peoples praised their character, intelligence, capabilities, and their physiques. They were fearsome enemies, but admirable individuals.

no americans did not ALWAYS respect the indians, history shows that.
what I see as I learn more is that pockets of peoples did respect, and initially our govt too, but later generations of our govt under various presidents did not always treat themwwith respect and I workedabout 15 yrs ago in an area of southwest US that I witnessed people mock native americans so I think various peoples have various views.
I also have learned that in some cases respect is earned . from president and tribal leaders and citizens of US or members of tribe respect comes in various ways. almost 2 decades ago I worked in an area and saw Native Americans routinely mocked. It bothered me but also in those situations I could see that the people were not choosing in ways to live up to the respect they could have had. The mockers deserve no respect at all. US leaders initially respected the tribes, but a few generations in our various govt leaders did not respect them and broke agreements.
PC is a whole nother ball of wax based on feelings and presuming what may cause hurt feelings in others. It’s ridiculous because it takes the power away from the actual person and trys to remove their ability to make their own choice of what they want to stand up for or not. PC is about Power of Control of others, not simply asking or discussing with soomeone how they view or feel about some thing, but just assuming you know what;’s best for them and pushing it on not just them but everyone else in society.
I call a lot of people newcomers, since every branch of my family traces back to people who arrived in the 1600s (Massachusetts Bay and Connecticut colonies) and their American ancestors usually don’t go back very far. But your roots predate mine! Wow! You and I might be related, too.
From the historical and family lore handed down, I would find it difficult to consider the Indians who massacred my ancestors, including several young children, of “good character”. (Although, I do understand the Native Indian plight).

From the time frame it sounds like this occurred around the time of the French and Indian War, when the French had put a bounty on English scalps. So they were likely acting as agents for French Catholics.
My last name descendents from a Huguenot settler in the New World. On St. Bartholomew’s Day in 1572, the French Catholics massacred almost 200,000 Huguenots, leading to diaspora of France’s most useful citizens.
Yes Indians were horrifically brutal in history.
My comments were more about in the past few decades how Americans view Indians.
The PC movement says using Indian names for sports teams are somehow mocking Indians when that’s the furthest thing from the truth.

Curiosity about ancestry has been common for decades. Family trees are educational and helpful in locating relatives.

Two of my grandparents, my mother’s father and my father’s mother, were descendants of 19th Century Irish immigrants, so I am at least half newcomer, but I do not particularly consider myself Irish. I am about as white and as American as it is possible to be.

If so, search, Rhodes family massacre at toms creek, (although the family name is also Roads) and an excellent perspective of the actual massacre was written by The Literate Quilter. The Rev. John Roads, was a Mennonite and pacifist, who did not have guns or believe in them, they were all scalped and the scalps sold for 15.00 each. (Interesting even in today’s 2nd amendment debate). Several members of the remaining family who left for Ohio/Pennsylvania went on the carry arms and fought in the American Revolution. My connecting ancestors moved to Ohio shortly after the massacre and settled near Granville, Ohio, they named their settlement “Luray” after Luray, Virginia.
Death in the streets caused by religious ‘rightness ‘ has been going on since time immemorial.
The the religion of communism (along with Islam) is now going after Christians and Jews.
