....Counties that havent voted for a Democrat in decades turned out for Beto ORourke in his unsuccessful bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, and he picked up enough support in ruby red Republican counties to force Cruz into single-digit wins. ... Tuesday night's results suggest that the Republican firewall in the suburbs could be cracking....

But, in Texas, according to the 2016 census data, Hispanics make up 47.3% and African-American make up 12.2%. The problem in Texas is white working class liberals - mainly women.
I encounter A LOT of middle-class hispanics, and they don't vote democrat because most middle-class hispanics are VERY religious and despise abortion. Even the middle-class blacks I know don't vote democrat because they have figured out that the govt can't butter their bread as well as they can butter their own bread.
the big news was Ft. Bend County and Harris County voting Dem.
The tax assessor, county judge and other Republicans got tossed in Houston because of 100,000 more Democrats voting “straight party”.
There’s an inexperienced 28-year old leftist in the county judge seat. Good luck the next time there is massive flooding in Houston (and it will happen again, to be sure). Good luck when property taxes escalate...
>>Abbott should suspend his efforts to attract CA and NY businesses to TX.
yep
I’ll spend $80,000,000 telling people you are a pierce of sh!t (as you say) and see how you do.

What’s more, they are openly saying MARXISM is cool and “end capitalism”.
Billionaires and millionaires are saying this.
Stalinists lie. Always
...”They will be disappointed with the Rats in the House, when they dont deliver on what they promised.”...
Yes, now the “arm chair referees,” overweight and out of shape, will have an opportunity to take some responsibility for how they play their own game.
I’ll have 70 years here in Texas in two more years, let me just pass on what I’ve seen. Suburbia as some like to call it is not what it used to be. Some of these towns have sucked in everything around them until it’s all become one. Houston, DFW, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso. There was a time when You could actually tell you were leaving one town and entering the next now it’s just a sign change. They’ve become nothing but huge urban anthills and just like anthills they have entrances in several locations around the perimeter. As the community expands they just dig a new entrance leading back to the main colony.
...”You hit the nail on the head. Lots of people from leftist, high-tax states have moved to Texas and brought their stupidity with them.”...
Florida, too, and Las Vegas.
I have told people that for years. Texas is/will be turning blue because of the demographics. I watched it happen in California. They all shout....yeah, but our Hispanics are conservatives! So are ours....but they still vote left. They come from Socialist countries so yeah, it’s their culture.
Did DuPage County’s demographics change so that it now is heavily minority (with large numbers of blacks, Asians and Hispanics)? Because that’s what happened to Fort Bend County.
Yes, I remember Phil Gramm. There was a cartoon of him during that time where he was dressed in buckskin and the statement made under the photo said something link:
“And he actually tried to represent his constituents.”
(ask if that was a serious crime.)
“Texas schools are ruled from Austin”
I don’t see signs of it here, in a town of 600 people. The teachers are not like the one in the cities. Nor are the Administrators.
The local school board sees to that.
None of what you wrote explains the fact that Governor Gregg Abbot received over 70 percent of the vote.
If TEXAS is “going blue” - for reason of all you posted - then explain how it is that the Republican governor won reelection by an insanely wide margin, yet Republican Senator Cruz barely kept his seat, only by about 6 percent (some reports have 8 percent)?
I guess REPUBLICAN Governor Greg Abbott, who took OVER SEVENTY PERCENT of the vote in “red” counties - and, in most cases, OVER SIXTY PERCENT IN “BLUE” COUNTIES - is not so much a POS?
The fact is, whether you are willing to admit it or not, Ted Cruz is his own worst enemy. He comes across as insincere and self-serving.
That he could not even come within 20 percent of Governor Abbott’s reelection totals proves the point beyond any reasonable doubt.
I’ll wager you that Senator Cruz would have gotten the same result no matter how much or how little money was spent to defeat him, because he is not a likeable individual.
The unpleasant truth is that Senator Ted Cruz is a narcissistic opportunistic prick, and that turns most people off - including Republicans.
Well, I’m not really feeling that it matters. What matters is, Cruz almost got beat by a nobody with a pretty interesting history.
Did Republican’s crossed over and voted for O’Rourke?
Could it be that the Independents, not sure how many there are in Texas, went for O’Rourke just because of their dislike for Cruz? I mean, we only have one of the strongest economies in the world and history right now. Texas is leading the way in pumping oil out of the ground and apparently, can’t find enough workers to work the oil fields. All of that happening under a Republican President, which Cruz is aligned with(now) and who campaigned for Cruz.
Or could it be that the Left came out of nowhere to try to get O’Rourke in and just missed? You have Leftists, in Austin that want to change the name of the city. The liberals and the Left sneak up on you. Before you know it they are there, took over your school board, HOAs and everything else and you’re left wondering what the hell happened.
It’s happening all over the place.
I just looked at a graph that showed the Abbott won with 55%. Where did you get the 70% from?
Simple answer: Republicans voted for Abbott, and left the Cruz box unchecked.
70 percent comes from looking at all the individual counties. each “RED” county was 70 percent or greater. The “BLUE” counties brought down the average to 55 percent - but even those BLUE counties were voting for Abbott in 40 to 60 percent range.
Again, this bolsters my point that Ted Cruz is extremely disliked, because he’s a self-serving, opportunistic, narcissistic asshole - and most Texans see him as such. It really is not that difficult to figure out.
This is why I think the country needs to split, not along state or regional lines, but large metro areas vs the rest of the country. Let these socialist city-states survive on their own without inflicting their tyranny on everyone else.
I won’t disagree with your description of Cruz, one bit. But, what’s more important?
A self-serving, opportunistic, narcissistic asshole....Republican who will side with the President. Even if the only reason he’s doing it, is to look good and ride the Presidents coattails.
or
A Schumer/Pelosi lapdog that will vote against anything the President tries to push, will vote to obstruct all the judges that are about to be confirmed and keep the borders wide open.
If the reasons that folks didn’t vote for Cruz are what you say, and I have no reason to argue that, it’s about time folks stow the personal and start thinking long term. It’s like folks that vote for the Libertarians to prove a point. The only point that is made is the Dem’s usually win in those contests.
Personally, I think the country is coming to a tipping point. I thought that the election in 2016 was the most important one, in the modern era. Then I realized that Tuesday’s was. I was thinking that if the Republicans held Congress, the Dem’s would become so unhinged that they’d break apart and slowly fade away. Now, with two years of obstruction on the way. Two years of the Dem’s making fools of themselves, Maxine Waters could be the Finance Committee Chair. The election in 2020 will be the most important. Time to put personal feelings in the hip pocket.
I don’t disagree with your points. I am merely stating why Texas Republicans were so lukewarm in their desire to reelect Cruz. I’m willing to bet that most of those Republicans, who refused to vote for Cruz, probably thought it was “only them” not casting a vote for him ... They did not see the “big picture,” but allowed their own personal animosity to govern their ballot decision.
but to set up and carry out 'political Jihad'....which in their ideology is equal to
