Silly reasons like husband (and my father) dying young and having the choice to either go on welfare and raise me in the projects or go to nursing school and provide a good suburban life.

I wish my folks had taught me how to fight while I was young. It would have made my life in school much better.
Most all of you that have posted don’t seem to realize the horror of this violent, social decay.
These are children. And many of you joke.
Horrific? Let's have a sense of proportion here. They were wearing "Hulk smash fists" which are boxing gloves for children. It's not like they were beating each other over the head with hammers.
Kids looked like they were having fun. I put my sons at that age in karate class. They put on pads and kicked and punched each other.
Let boys be boys. Probably do them some good to learn how to fight.
Sorry, I'm just not so outraged by this.
At the school where I used to teach (and still sub) a couple of large families moved into a low-income neighborhood a couple of years ago. They completely changed the atmosphere of the school. Anyway, I learned that there was a ‘fight club’ established in the neighborhood (not at the school) where kindergarteners would fight, the toughest kindergartener would then be paired to fight a 1st grader. The toughest 1st grader would fight a 2nd grader and so on.
The families involved have since moved away, and I believe the fight-club no longer is in place. But, apparently such are now a part of a demographic which shall not be named.
