NBC has the upper hand here. They can draw this out and bring her to the table. The worse that can happen is they have to pay her.
You can be sure her attorneys are going to charge $500 to $1000 per hour. That’s thousands per week, week after week. You can go thru 5 million in legal fees very fast.
I disagree. For the balance of a $69 million contract it would be well worth the attorneys fees to litigate. Contract law is not very complicated. It was a guaranteed contract and they breached. Pay up.
Alternatively, they could let her finish out the rest of the contract. Its very unlikely she will be able to mitigate her losses by signing another huge contract with another network in the next year and a half.
No, if it can be shown that their efforts to stiff her and destroy her reputation was done with intentional malice... they could be liable for a lot more than the $69 Million her contract specified. Very few attorneys, even big time media attorneys are able to charge $500 to $1000 per man hour. The vast majority get a fraction of that.
