CAMERON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A C-17 military plane dropped a Humvee prematurely over a neighborhood in Harnett County Wednesday afternoon, Fort Bragg officials confirmed.
No one was injured.
The neighborhood is in the town of Cameron. This incident occurred around 1 p.m. during a training exercise.
"A load of some kind was released early and we're looking into how it happened," said Michael Novogradac, a spokesman for the USArmy's Operational Test Command.
The C-17 aircraft carries supplies and equipment into war zones and, on Wednesday, the special operations team was practicing that type of scenario when the accident happened.
Only two items were aboard the aircraft, which was flying at about 1,500 feet in altitude -- the Humvee and a new heavy drop platform.
About a mile from the drop zone at Fort Bragg, the platform went out the back of the C-17.
"Everything went as planned except for the early release," said Fort Bragg spokesperson Tom McCollum.
The three parachutes attached to the Humvee deployed properly.
UPDATE: @FtBraggNC now says it was a C17 that prematurely dropped a humvee during a training exercise. No injuries and no property damage. As with C130s, the C17 also carries soldiers, supplies and equipment. #abc11 Morgan Norwood (@MorganABC11) October 24, 2018
The C-17 Globemaster III was from the 437th airlift wing based at Joint Base Charleston
The incident is under investigation.

Looks like somebody already dropped a bomb there.......................
I was at a live fire exercise in the USMC when the TOW missile was first introduced.
Everything went normal until one went off and the wire broke.
People were diving behind anything, cars trucks and whatever they could. It wouldn’t have protected them anyways.
Luckily, the missile just spun out of control and went into the hillside.............................
LOL, good one
I was at an airshow at PAX River in the’70s, and saw this happen. A huge helicopter lumbered over the horizon with something slung underneath and trailing a bit behind. The announcer prepped the crowd in excited tones to see a special Navy helicopter. Once the helicopter got to within half a mile or so, we could see the load was actually a Volkswagen Beetle. Then, suddenly the Beetle broke free and started to drop. “Oh, Oh, what’s happened here” said the announcer in mock surprise as the Beetle fell from maybe a thousand feet or more. When that thing hit, there was a quick cloud of dust, it bounced up maybe twenty feet, and at the same time all four wheels popped straight off. That was entertainment!
I HATE when that happens. Luckily, my P-3B was almost always over water...
Finders Keepers !!! Bubba gets a new hunting rig.
When you're flying near stall speed, and close to the ground, the last thing you need is a HMMWV and a parachute dragging along behind it, that's still attached to the airplane. So it's very important to make sure that it's not attached when you deploy the chute.
Someone must have gotten things out of sequence.
Da Bronx. :)
