Pres Trump shares East Room stage with Sergeant Major John L Canley, USMC (Ret.), recipient of today's Medal of Honor, for conspicuous valor under fire, coming to the aid of fellow Marines, in 1968 during the Vietnam War.

During the Tet Offensive in Vietnam, Sgt Major Canley "risked his own life to save the lives of those under his command," said Pres Trump, recounting Canley's bravery meriting the Medal of Honor.

"You don't look 80 years old to me," Pres tells Sgt Major Canley, commenting on the fitness of the retired Marine.

My secret to good chicken soup is to use canned chicken broth. Stuff that I can. I love canning. And there’s something about slowly simmering those chicken bones and getting all the goodness out of them, and then pressure canning it just seems to intensify the flavor even more.

Timing of all this is suspicious, but more importantly very dangerous!

I love chicken!

I was being silly!

I know, I know ... I’m never silly so who would expect it? ;-)

I like all three, but dumplings is my favorite!

Which one do you like in your chicken soup?

LOL
Don’t let his good looks fool you, he’s a little monster!
He was just a little ball of fluff when I took him.
Now, he weighs about 12.5-13 lbs!

Want to see his baby picture?

He’s gorgeous! Nothing better than a Purring Kitty to cuddle with.

I’ve been sleeping on a single bed in the living room lately, because I have these ridiculous braces on my arms and I can’t read so watching TV to get to sleep has been helpful. The last two nights I have had 3 cats and a dog with me. There’s hardly any room for me then. I’m a Restless sleeper so I like to move around, so I have to gingerly move my limbs in and out of the animals so I don’t disturb them. I actually have been pretty successful, only one cat left last night.

Wow! You’re a real cook.

I’m not.

I like to make huge pots of soup or chili or stew or whatever and freeze it so that I can not spend time in the kitchen.

It’s not very admirable, but I really don’t care to cook.

But I do love to set a pretty table - for my Prego spaghetti or frozen deer chili!

Lol!!!

“I’m never silly so who would expect it? ;-)”

I know, that’s why I thought you were serious! LOL!

I think I would like dumplings. But I have to learn how to make them. Campbells used to have a chicken and dumpling soup and their dumplings were pretty good. Maybe they still have it, but I haven’t bought soup in a long time.

My problem is I am dumpling challenged so I normally just put in pasta. I still need to learn how to make southern style dumplings. I like the Bisquick fluffy ones but that doesn’t really work for soup.

I was just going to ask if you have a dumpling recipe to share

We would make a perfect team. I love to cook but I don’t care to spend time on a fancy table. Probably because I don’t really know how. But I do love the way they look.

I had a friend in California, I would have large dinners and invite people over to her house :-) actually it was her idea. She would set a beautifully fancy table, and have all these nice carafes have drinks ready. And I brought over the food. It was perfect! I didn’t have to worry about cleaning my house or setting the table and she didn’t have to worry about cooking. We each got to do what we liked. And then got to have fun with friends without stress.

I need to learn how to do that. How to be diplomatic. The goal is not to alienate people, I need to remember that! LOL!

I think it’s very clever of you to ask questions, and that might get them thinking about why they think they want to vote Democrat. Telling someone to vote a certain way doesn’t work, but if they convince themselves they’ve been wrong ... perfect!

Here is my favorite winter soup. It freezes well. It was what soups were like before the war.

BEANS AND HAM HOCKS

2 cups dried beans
2 leeks, white part only
1 stalk celery, minced
1 carrot, minced
1/3 cup celery leaves, minced
6 tbsp butter
1 tbsp flour
1 lb smoked ham hocks
1/4 cup minced parsley
1/8 tsp mustard seed
1/3 cup dry sherry
1 tsp salt

In a large saucepan cover the beans, rinsed and picked over, with 6 cups of water and let stand overnight.

Add 4 cups of water, bring to a boil over moderate heat, and simmer the beans, covered, for 1-1/2 hours. Mash the beans with a potato masher if desired.

In a kettle, cook the leeks (well washed), celery, carrot, celery leaves in butter until the vegetables are softened. Add flour, and cook the mixture, stirring, for 2 minutes. Stir in the beans, including the liquid, ham hocks, 2 cups of water, minced parsley and mustard seed. Bring the mixture to a boil over moderate heat, and simmer, covered, for 3-4 hours. Add water if necessary to keep the beans covered.

Transfer the hocks with a slotted spoon to a bowl, and remove the meat from the bones. Stir in the meat, sherry and salt, and heat moderately, stirring all the while, until it is all mixed in.
