The satellites owner, Iridium, confirmed that it was indeed a component of their spacecraft, and more specifically it was a piece of the defunct Iridium Satellite #70, which had been in orbit for two decades. As with all satellites, the spacecraft eventually reentered Earths atmosphere, where it was expected to be completely destroyed.
Somehow, this rather large piece of the spacecraft managed to survive the intense inferno and tumbled all the way down to an unsuspecting farmers walnut orchard.

All GPS is ground based, buoy based, or low aircraft based (in the air, but not in “space”)
LORAN technology was invented during WWII.
There are no satellites in “orbit.”
This “orbit” deception has been going on since the 1960s.
Amazing. I didn’t think any ‘flat-earth’ers actually existed.
And one who has been a member of FR for a whole decade.
I’m impressed.

So is the earth flat or a sphere?
Some of the funniest YouTube’s are flat earthers “proving” the world is flat.
The earth is flat. Its shape is somewhat like that of a phonograph record resting on a table. I do not know how big the “table” is. For all I know, it could be a plane many times the surface area of the earth.
Water on the earth’s surface does not curve the 8 inches per mile squared that would be required to fit a 25,000 mile circumference globe. The lack of such alleged curve can be demonstrated with a laser. It can also be proven with a combination of direct observation (unaided eye) and a telescope.
Wow, we have some REALLY stupid people on FR.
Satellites don’t exist. The Earth is flat. Space junk is dropped out of aircraft.
Unbelievable.
What follows is my answer to Kozak’s question:

Oh, be nice!
The writer may still be recovering from the hard landing of his rocket last spring.
TBI can cause problems.
Why are you talking about linear distances and area measurements as if they're one and the same?
Your illustration completely misses my carefully worded comment.
My illustration is a comment on your “carefully worded comment”.
Can’t argue with ignorance nor dogma.
That said, the writer may be having some fun?
I would attempt the same if I thought it might go over?
A guy has to have some fun.
Recall, Classy Green Eyed Blond? Deep in Hurtgen Forest...?
Future Snake Eater,
You have misinterpreted my response. There is no area measurement in what I stated. Instead, it is a statement of trigonometry. To wit:
If the earth were a 25,000 mile circumference globe, then, using the Pythagorean Theory (in the first few miles):
In the first (1) mile there would be 8 inches of curve.
1 x 1 x 8 = 8 inches
In the second (2) mile there would be a combined 32 inches of curve.
2 x 2 x 8 = 32 inches
In the third (3) mile there would be a combined 32 inches of curve.
3 x 3 x 8 = 72 inches
Note that stating “squared” is merely a shorthand way of saying that the number is multiplied by itself; (1 x 1), (2 x 2), (3 x 3), etc.
What’s the movie/show the GIF is from? Unless she’s Supergirl I don’t think she made it ...
I respect your right to state your opinion.
1 mile x 1 mile x 8 inches = 8 inches
Is that what you’re saying?
72 inches of curve
Future Snake Eater,
I am NOT using literal “mile” units in the equation. It just so happens that when all of the math is worked out, the number to be squared matches the distance number (when measured in miles.)
Here are the equations labeled with units stated.
1 (no units) x 1 (no units) x 8 inches = 8 inches
2 (no units) x 2 (no units) x 8 inches = 32 inches
3 (no units) x 3 (no units) x 8 inches = 72 inches
