Wal-Mart is headed that way too.

wally is seriously competing online. If wally upgraded its online ratings system to amazon's, it would be unbeatable.      many walmart items can be picked-up for free, something amazon can't match.

I felt that way at my last house. Amazon does have delivery centers everywhere that you can you.

I bought a new house a couple of months ago and my front door is shielded from the street. You cannot see anything unless you walk right up. And my new video system should take care of that.

I can remember as a young lad many years ago, my father told me that if I could get a Sears credit card, my financial standing would be sterling. Then, at some point, Sears sold the credit end of its business to Citibank who began to give out the cards like they were candy treats at Halloween. Interest rates were through the roof, too.

Years ago they were the IT place to go. It was called Sears Town. I still have a 35 year old Sears snowsuit in good condition. Appliances used to be topnotch.

Malls changed shopping habits. Downtown stores died. Box stores the same to malls. Now Amazon and online shopping is so convenient. Even groceries are being delivered.

They lease some property on risky areas while they buy the real estate in solid areas. The real estate accounting takes a lot but is well worth it

There’s no room for politically correct management in the future of American business.

“What do you expect from a company that dumped its catalogue 5 years or more before online retail took off. Then ignored the internet.”

Yeh, opportunity lost. Sears could have been Amazon.

Sears was really a great store once. Back in the 50s and 60s. The hand writing was on the wall in the 80s. So sad.

Amazon does offer free pickup for many items. They have automated Amazon lockers all over town now. You just go there and it tells you which locker your item is in and you get it. Often times shopping to one of these locations is free.

Bryan Adams bought his first real six string at the five and dime. He played it ‘til his fingers bled, back in the summer of ‘69.

I went to my local Ace Hardware then the exact 3 items were $50 more each!

Yea, I've found Ace to be much higher than both Lowes and Home Depot on virtually everything....

I only go to Ace for small things that I need right away because they're just a half mile away and I don't have to fight mega traffic.

DieHard batteries are made by Johnson Controls. They're expensive but nothing special. (There's only about three companies that make car batteries anymore in the US -- everyone else just relabels products from those three companies.)

You can get the same battery, perhaps with a lesser warranty (but maybe one which the seller will actually honor) from several retailers. Interstate is the Johnson Controls "home brand". They also make batteries relabeled for various auto parts chains, as well as Walmart, Tractor Supply, etc.

That’s part of the local hardware business model. The other part is knowledge. The big box stores have better prices, but little to no knowledge among their staff.

I was doing a plumbing project once and needed to put together a series of drain pipe parts. Went to the local ACE. The 12 year old son of the owner was absolutely amazing in his knowledge and ability to get me the right parts.

I’m kind of forced to do Home Depot. It’s two blocks away. The nearest independent hardware store is 5 miles, then ten to the next one.

I work for a company that sells building materials. I make it a point if I’m in a store to walk by our displays and if someone is there searching to stop and help them out.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. MBA programs are turning out nothing BUT politically correct candidates for these jobs. I actually do want to write a book someday about how MBA's are destroying the world.

They get into senior management and then are led around by the nose by their marketing departments, staffed by social-media addicted SJW twentysomethings.

I wonder why the ceo Eddie Lampert did this?
He could have made so much more money.

Kinda looks like a snake oil salesman.
