(VIDEO) Dunching: The No Fast Fast Way to Lose Weight

Dunching or Dunch (contraction of Dinner and Lunch) is the one a day low carb meal which will have the effect of fasting (namely LOSING weight) without actually fasting. A big reason for this is by eating Dunch in the middle of the afternoon, your stomach has sufficient time to digest most if not all the food before you go to sleep.

As you can see in this video, Dunch will more than fill you up so by dinner time you will still not be hungry. Your stomach will have about an additional 3 hours in which to digest your food as a result. The greater lead time from your last (and only) meal of the day (Dunch) until you go to sleep is very helpful in losing weight. It sure works for me.

I have found through N=1 that ketosis is not essential for weight loss or maintenance. It can be essential for curing or treating a chronic disease. But for just good metabolism and weight loss or management, you needn’t worry if you are in constant ketosis, because we rely too much for immune work and brain function/moods on our gut bugs. And our gut bugs need natural starchy carbs.

So in my opinion it is best to use your carbs for the day on foods the gut bugs eat. Feel them like the wonderful pets they are. They literally keep our moods good, and fight flu and cancer etc. we need them and they depend on us to feed them.

Without the starches they love, you will end up with populations of less beneficial bacteria. The best ones want resistant starches. So cooked or fermented fibrous veggies, potatoes and rice that has been cooked and cooled (and can be warmed up), all the root veggies, and you can cheat with potato starch and insulin starch for very low carb yet highly functional gut bug food!

Mine are eating granola made from mostly seeds (a serving of maybe 3 tbsp is enough), potatoes (not every day), some kind of fibrous veg, and a tbsp of inulin (Made from Jerusalem artichokes) every day just to cover all bases. If you eat low carb and you are out and have a choice of a green salad or cooked broccoli, your gut bugs are begging you to take the broccoli. The lettuce does NOTHING for them!

And if you eat like this, with 30-70g carbs a day, you will sometimes be in ketosis, sometimes not, and for weight alone, it doesn’t matter.

Except that people have been trying low calorie, low fat diets FOREVER, and do NOT have the success of the low carb diet, especially the keto diet.

It's called Intermittent Fasting.

This diet works very well. Mainly it retrains the liver to burn fat for energy once the body's blood sugar is used up after a number of hours between meals. People who become "shaky" after not eating for awhile, and those who are diabetics, should use caution and talk to their doctor before trying this diet plan.

After a week or two, at least in my case, my body began to easily transition from burning sugar to burning fat. I no longer get the shakes or a weak feeling when I haven't eaten in awhile.

Once you've mastered this, the next step is a 5 day fast of 600-800 daily calories. I did this (simulated) fast each month for two months and reached my target weight of less than 200 lbs. Now I can pretty much eat what I want and haven't gained the weight back.

Many have even reported blood chemistry returning to normal after several consecutive periods of fasting.

No matter when I eat dinner, I just am NOT hungry in the mornings. I can go til 3 or 4, before I get hungry. My problem is that once I eat, I want to eat in the evening, as well. (This is much lessened if I stay away from simple carbs like things made with white flour). I have type 2 diabetes, and my last hgb a1c was 5.3, which is a non-diabetic level. But I also have depression, and many psychiatrists recommend eating something as soon as you get up in the morning.
Once you take yourself off simple carbs, your cravings for them will disappear. But I don’t beat myself up. If I go out to eat, I’ll try to choose lower carbs, but I’m not a Nazi about it; if I want some potato or bread, I’ll eat some, though less than I might otherwise.

I’ve tried the Keto diet and will likely try it again. It’s an expensive diet for sure but it does have its benefits.

I just stick to low carb and don't worry about Keto or any other kind of strict diet. Works for me. BTW, if you do couponing, low carb eating is cheap.

I did keto last year and lost 17 pounds in about 4 weeks. I was very strict with myself, and stuck to 20-25 carbs a day. This time, When I went off of it (mostly because I could not find a bread recipe that wasn’t disgusting, and I need a sandwich once in a while). After I went off it, I gained back at least all I had lost, and then some, but then I went back on low carb, not completely strict keto, and I lost so much that I weighed less than when I lost the 17 lbs 8 months ago -— having lost another 9 lbs. And that was with cheating when I go out to eat. I have found some acceptable bread recipes, using carbalose flour, which isn’t as expensive as almond flour. My biggest trick to stave off carbs? Treating myself almost every night, with strawberries sweetened with splenda or stevia, a low carb biscuit (made from carbalose, and about 1/4 cup heavy cream, whipped (to about 1/2 cup, after whipping). In other words, strawberry shortcake. Even when I was on a strict keto, that every night, didn’t keep me from losing weight.

I also disagree with this.

What works for one person won’t work for all. In fact, it may not ever work for most people.

320 to 266 is damned good though. Good going !

I’m trying to lose just 10 pounds. 160 to 150. I’m working out, I cut my caloric intake in half... which got me from 180 to 160. 160 appears to be a plateau.

thin does not mean healthy.

losing weight his way for many could lead to other problems if they are not careful to eat nutrints body needs. Hope peopel aren’t doing this for more than a week or few.

people should just be sensible not do extreme things because they are not a sustainable method without creating other problems.

Pssst! Crave Stop. Ever since I've been using that in early July...NO carb cravings at all.

Here's what 1962 really sounded like:  "Number One Songs of 1962 - Billboard Hot 100"   (A short segment/clip of each of the Billboard #1 songs of 1962 - sort of like an intermittent fast for each of those songs.)

(One of those songs -- Bobby Vinton's "Roses Are Red" -- sounds almost like an anthem for low-carb eating: "Roses are red, my love, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, my love, but not as sweet as you!")

My favorite song from that year, (linked here for your listening enjoyment) sounds like something a low-carber/intermittent-faster might sing about "bad" food: "I Can't Stop Loving You" - Ray Charles.

The first couple weeks starting any of these restrictive eating programs, the acute missing of the "bad" foods may feel like this song that was released near the end of 1962: "The End of The World" - Skeeter Davis.

And for anyone missing "bad" food too much, here's another song from 1962 which should express some of your feelings about that, and a way to try to cope with those feelings: "Blues Stay Away From Me" - Ace Cannon.

(P.S. PJ - Did you rule out calling Dunch "Lupper" for some reason?)        :-)
