Does he have chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the degenerative disease believed to be caused by repeated blows to the head? Murphys biggest contract came in 1996 when he signed a three-year, $10-million deal to join the St. Louis Blues.
If I loved it, I would have kept it, Murphy says of his money. But I didnt love it.
Murphy offers few specifics.
Well, how I lost it, he says. Forty percent went to taxes. Gone. After my taxes, I gotta pay my agent. Then, I got divorced. Then, I got payments. I made an investment boom! It was like that. After, I had a little left over, so I invested in other things. Black jack, I invested in, I liked the Johnny Walker, a little bit of wine. Cigars. Ladies.
He laughs.

He should just do the convenience stores....what a trip. Black folks sure seem to have a problem with middle eastern convenience store owners/operators. I’ve been in a million convenience stores, never had a hostile interaction like that...ever.
If I remember correctly, Terrell Owens declared bankruptcy about 2 years after leaving football (where he earned $80 million - $40 million after taxes)
I've interacted with homeless people with alcohol problems and none of them exhibited the loss of muscular control that Murphy is going thru now. There's something definitely wrong with his brain function.
With that being said, he did approach the NHL for help but they turned him down........No, they let him down.......This is a tragedy.

The story is looking all too much like that of former Steeler Hall of Famer Mike Webster.
In 2017, Murphy was living in Costa Rica but was deported back to Canada. When he did go to Costa Rica, he was homeless, living on the streets, said Rick Kozuback, Murphys junior hockey coach in Penticton, British Columbia. We worked with the consulate, trying to get him help, getting him out of there. He didnt want to at the time. But he ended up being forced to leave.
Just read Webster’s history, another tragedy.....
Yup.
You said it.
Gotta be careful every day, all the time.
