Red Sox beat Yankees, advance to ALCS

There was no debating the better team all year, and there was no debating the better team in this series.

The 108-win Red Sox entered the postseason with more questions than the SATs while the Wild Card Yankees looked like a team nobody wanted to face this October.

And yet it was the Sox who looked like juggernauts by the time the American League Division Series was over at Yankee Stadium late Tuesday night.

Rick Porcello earned his first win in a playoff start, Christian Vazquez hit his first home run since June 26 and Chris Sale pitched out of relief in a bizarro Game 4 win, 4-3, that secured the Red Sox’ first playoff series win since 2013.

Oh, I could tell you stories about Yankees vs. Red Sox fans. I live in northern Connecticut near the MA line... the Yankees/Red Sox Mason/Dixon line runs just slightly south of here (Hartford area). It's like two die-hard religions clashing with each other all the time.

Biggest -- and I think oldest -- rivalry in American sports.

Don't even get me started on what it's like to wear Red Sox gear to a game at Yankee Stadium in da Bronx! It's the Belly of the Beast...

I was telling hubby that those BoSox fans were probably fearing for their lives, leaving YS, in the Bronx.

One of, if not THE, biggest rivalries, in baseball.

They just beat the Yanks, at YS....and, now have to get the heck out of the stadium.

I was wondering if they quickly changed shirts...well, at least the ones who had to ride the subway :-O

Astros are the best team in the AL. Rooting for the Red Sox.

That’s right... I actually just found you on an old FR Red Sox ping list I haven’t used in years. I was confusing you with another Maryland FReeper. :-)

And you call posting THAT picture "classy"; do you?

I was just about to congratulate my Boston loving Freeper friends ( BIG YANKEE FAN that I am, so I guess, according to you and a couple of others, I'm the "classless" one ),on their big win; however, I've changed my mind.

Pssssssssssssssssssssst...Hilary was NEVER a real Yankees fan ( that was just for show, because she was running for Senator Carpetbagger ) and neither are Bloomy nor de Blasio!

LOL! That's right... see my post #21 above. ;-)

I highly doubt any of the Red Sox players would ride the subway out of Yankee Stadium... especially at this time of night. But who knows...?

One of, if not THE, biggest rivalries, in baseball.

My husband grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area with the SF Giants / LA Dodgers rivalry. Even he concedes the Red Sox / Yankees rivalry is far bigger, lol.

Thanks for the shout out, for my Astros!

Rooting for the Red Sox.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Rooting for my home team. If they don't win, it's a shame. ;-)

Astros rolled Chief Wahoo 3-0 to advance.

[I thought they ‘retired’ the Chief, but I noticed him prominently on the caps of the Cleveland Indians.]

Oh come on... that *very* old pic of Hillary in the Yankee cap was a running joke on these FR threads for years. I know she was never a Yankee fan. ;-)

If Hillary had run for Senate in Massachusetts, that would be a Boston Red Sox cap on her head.

I do know that, but you saw fit to post, which implies something false and was declasse.

I think this may have been the final season for poor 'ol Chief Wahoo. He's been retired because he is "un-PC" in this modern era. *barf*

Glad we bought an extremely un-PC retro Chief Wahoo bobblehead doll as a souvenir when we visited Progressive Field several years ago. ;-)

108 wins? I hadn’t realized the Bosox were that good this year. It’ll be fun watching them go against the Astros in the ALCS.

No...I don’t like being called “classless” by those who truly are.

Actual Native Americans like the Chief. It’s only virtue-signaling soy boys and soy girls who are “offended.”
