A Georgia high school football player died Sunday evening after sustaining a severe brain injury from a game Friday night, Atlanta’s FOX 5 reported. Dylan Thomas, 16, was a linebacker for Pike County High School in Zebulon, which is about an hours’ drive south of Atlanta. On Friday, Pike County played against a varsity team from Peach County High School.

Thomas collided with another player in the middle of the game, but returned to the field, his uncle told FOX 5. When Thomas was sitting on the sidelines, his arm and leg went numb and he collapsed, Thomas’ uncle said.

At the end of the day, what the hell can you do?

What can we do? In the case of football perhaps we can wait to hear what respected researchers have to say,as I suggested in Post #20.

re CTE.....they need to test a large sample of young or middle aged men who don't play football to see if infact, CTE is football specific...

there's big MONEY to be gained but suing the NFL/colleges/HS etc for CTE so there's motive..

A few years ago I was part of a head injury research study at a local VA hospital, that study being "supervised" by Harvard Medical School. In BCT (many,*many* years ago) I sustained a head injury.Given that injury I was deemed a fitting candidate for the study.I had an MRI and CT scan of my head, lots of blood was taken from me, I had a number of tests of my memory and a physician asked me many, many questions about the incident and my life since the event.

It's easy to see why the Armed Forces would want to study head trauma just as it's easy to see why the NFL,the NHL and professional boxing would.Head trauma can be the result of falling off a bike, being in a car accident, playing football or hockey...or just falling down the stairs.

It's stupid to make the medical study of head injuries a political issue...just as surely as it is to make foot injuries a political issue.

They leave a great hole in the world when it goes wrong, but what can you do? At the end of the day, what the hell can you do?

I know you did all you could have done.
