That’s way close. Stupid close.
I was in the Arctic and we were operating in the ice with a Canadian Icebreaker, the Grosilliers.
Our captains were trying to figure out who’s dick was bigger and started doing stupid things in the ice. The Canadian breaker came within about 50 yards of our stern breaking ice at about 10 knots.
Good thing he knew his ice. Multiyear ice tends to toss the boat to one side of your trackline or the other.
