He has an incentive clause in his contract that said if he pitched 155 innings this year, he would earn a $500,000 bonus. Through the first five innings Thursday, Sabathia had pitched 153 innings two shy of the bonus.

Unlikely, but he’s now worse than half of the bullpen.

Retaliation bean balls aren’t protecting anybody. Especially not in the AL where pitchers never get to the plate.

I don’t think Sabathia would have gotten two more innings out of that game. He hasn’t pitched seven full innings in a start since June.
