Christine Blasey Ford was compelling and sympathetic. Clearly, she sincerely believes her account. But that doesn’t mean it’s correct. She very well could be mistaken about a long-ago memory, which is why Republicans needed to draw out the gaps in her story, walk through how others contradict her, and highlight the complete lack of corroborating evidence. The designated questioner, Rachel Mitchell, failed to do this effectively at all.

You're right about GOP's wussified performance today. But whether or not it spells doom for Kavanaugh has yet to be determined. It's very possible that a strong showing by him today (and so far that has indeed been the case) will override the GOP's fear-induced impotence and secure the confirmation.

Ford came across fairly well.
However, I believe based her testimony that it was more of two male teenagers hazing? a nerdy female who showed up at their party.
A big problem was her failure to identify the person who brought her to the house.
Why would she refuse? Only because such identification would reflect badly on her or get the driver fired.
Another Ford failure was not knowing if she had to pay her lawyers.
Ford should well know as most of us do that lawyers aren’t normally cheap or working pro bono.
The designated questioner, Rachel Mitchell, was fairly effective, but was hindered by the five-minute spurts she was being allowed to work.
The Democrats on the committee were clearly more interested in grandstanding than having Ford’s mind probed to discover all she could tell.
This is all about power politics and nothing more. Those whose minds are made up are made up and don't care about the truth. The media will not help them sort through the he-said, she-said in any kind of logical way to get the truth, so only those committed to the truth, who watch the circus and take the time to diagram and examine all the statements might come to a conclusion or change their mind. That is virtually no one.
So no, the Republicans didn't blow the questioning during the hearing or this day of circus. It was blown long ago by Democrats and is correctly described as a Search and Destroy mission once the attempted “Borking” failed.

Mitchell played by Queensbury rules when Dems never do. She should have had no role at all when questioning Kav. Thankfully, Lindsey and the gang took over.
Sadly agree....Grassley and committee bent over backwards to allow this to proceed, and then to avoid looking mean and nasty used a female sex expert to cross examine Ford. This is hard ball.
