On an October afternoon before the 2016 election, a huge banner was unfurled from the Manhattan Bridge in New York City: Vladimir V. Putin against a Russian-flag background, and the unlikely word Peacemaker below. It was a daredevil happy birthday to the Russian president, who was turning 64.
In November, shortly after Donald J. Trump eked out a victory that Moscow had worked to assist, an even bigger banner appeared, this time on the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington: the face of President Barack Obama and Goodbye Murderer in big red letters.
Police never identified who had hung the banners, but there were clues. The earliest promoters of the images on Twitter were American-sounding accounts, including @LeroyLovesUSA, later exposed as Russian fakes operated from St. Petersburg to influence American voters.

Mr. Putin had blamed the United States for pushing to investigate the doping scandal that had engulfed the team. The Kremlin, it appeared, had reached onto United States soil in New York and Washington. The banners may well have been intended as visual victory laps for the most effective foreign interference in an American election in history.
For many Americans, the Trump-Russia story as it has been voluminously reported over the past two years is a confusing tangle of unfamiliar names and cyberjargon, further obscured by the shout-fest of partisan politics. What Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel in charge of the investigation, may know or may yet discover is still uncertain.

What’s this...a long view from the far side?
"eked out a victory"???
Trump trounced Clinton in the Electoral College (304 to 228).
Moscow Helped Trump? Where is the evidence incompetent mr Mueller, who has botched several FBI initiatives while he was director of FBI !!
It sounds like you think there’s a mountain of evidence that Russia interfered and helps win the election for Trump. Is that what you think?
If that’s the case, I’m smelling ozone
Fake news from the house organ of the deep state/ dem party/ globalist elite.
First of all, it’s a story to bring comfort to those that have believed the Media and that Trump actually did conspire with Russia.
It’s a joke.
The Banner in DC, “Good bye Murderer”?
That’s a Bernie supporter and a reference to Seth Rich.
Looks to me like a lengthy, creative, convoluted attempt by the New York Slimes to cling to the fake narrative. I picked this article up from MSN Australia, I checked FR Search and couldn’t find it posted.
Thanks Fred Nerks. Ignore my FReepmail (blush).
No problems. It’s a long article, I doubt if anyone bothers to read it right through. I thought it was a cunning piece of work...
Thanks for the ping.
Thanks FN.
I see what you mean -- the investigation of the Russians has left a high figurative body count, and has been the only thing Mueller's actually accomplished. Meanwhile the slimy weasels who wrote this smear -- [snip] President Trumps Twitter outbursts that it is all a hoax and a witch hunt, in the face of a mountain of evidence to the contrary, have taken a toll on public comprehension. [/snip] is a quintessential bit of their spin, as it also slams the American public -- is trying to get us to believe that Hitlery is again the great heroine of the narrative, having publicly, and uniquely [sic], backed the populist surge that shattered the Soviet Union.
None of their drivel explains why the introductions of Russians to (and British, and Australians) to people at least loosely associated with the Trump campaign were carried out by members and/or associates of the Obama administration. It also doesn't explain why Hitlery's emails were suppressed by the Obama administration (and the Partisan Media Shills) and were going to be so damaging -- nor why it is the Mueller team isn't investigating that instead. Obviously, there was something in the emails which would damage Hitlery's candidacy, or Obama's criminal cadre wouldn't have suppressed them in the first place. Comey didn't bring them back up, nor would have, but those darned Russians did it. Must be collusion.
Seth Rich? Oh, he was murdered in a botched robbery, nothin' to see here, not even a Russian agent who killed him for the emails, then made it look like a botched robbery before vanishing back to Russia. Oh, and we need to confiscate all guns, then Seth Rich would still be alive.
It's interesting that all the "dangerous right-wing" Facebook pages which are "Islamophobic" were the products of the Russians -- as were those which supported Hitlery's candidacy -- rather than being domestic US in origin. Heads they win, tails you lose -- that is what they're implying in this fake news piece.
The party line scribbllers give no rational explanation for this -- The F.B.I., which had been tracking Russian spies when Mr. Page came on the bureaus radar, determined that he had no idea he was meeting with a Russian agent.
And do a search -- not even once will the word "uranium" show up in this POS.
Sorry if I came off a little *****y, nothing like sleeping for too long... and you're right, they were trying to be cunning.
