"Roughly 60-80 percent of clinicians, psychoanalysts, and therapists surveyed agreed to some extent that traumatic memories are often repressed and can be retrieved in therapy, compared to less than 30 percent of research-oriented psychologists. Established researchers in clinical psychology, as well as memory researchers, are generally skeptical of the notion of repressed memory."

They accept, "split personalities" having different memories in spite of only one body. The " science" is unsettled.

Almost all Social Scientists agree, however, that such memories can be accurately recalled when it hurts Republicans.

Repressed memories always exist for Demonrats, if accusations based on such memories will result in a loss of power for Republicans. Anything can be recalled, including a drunken grope from 35 years ago.

The left believes you can identify as any of 57 genders so I suppose truth is, “reality-fluid”
I have to go to work so I won’t be able to check back in for some time.

This is ridiculous did she really claim it was a repressed memory? Because those are very commonly manipulated especially in therapy many years later. Besides the fact that I think she’s lying and exaggerating if she makes this claim I’m sure the memory if it exists is a fantasy.

Unless there is proof, there’s no reason to bring it up decades later.

Repressed memories cause anguish and pain, and they are especially destructive when false. Families have been destroyed; relationships fractured beyond repair in this lifetime. Forgiveness next to impossible except through Christ.

I accept that there are in some *extreme* cases of trauma, examples of suppressed memories. That said, actual examples appear to be pretty rare, and what this woman claims happened doesn’t qualify unless she was already very unstable and mixing in hysterical delusion at the time.

I have repressed memories, but I’m suspicious of people who suddenly recall everything in 1080 high def. In my case things aren’t clear or specific; it’s more emotions and triggers that indicate something bad happened. I can recall a few incidents very clearly, but everything around those events is cloudy. It’s hard to explain.

Given how fuzzy everything is (and I’m content for the actual memories to stay repressed, thank you) I would never make any kind of accusation based on what I suspect happened without any kind of proof.

But I’m a Republican, so...

Interesting article in the Washington Post from 1993.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/1993/06/27/you-must-remember-this-or-do-you-how-real-are-repressed-memories/2ad65442-1a9c-4178-80df-f67f436932e9/?utm_term=.a09c498a709f

“YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS ...... OR DO YOU? HOW REAL ARE REPRESSED MEMORIES?”

(spoiler alert - “When uncritical acceptance of uncorroborated trauma memories fuels false accusations by alleged “survivors,” the lives and reputations of innocent people are irretrievably damaged.”)

The “patient” is eager to please the “therapist” and will gladly say whatever the therapist wants to hear. Same as for hypnosis.

People who have any experience with people with “repressed memories” have seen them go from happy people with some minor problems they would like to work through to paranoid basket cases.

The human mind is very suggestible. There are numerous cases where people have been shown a scene, a few suggestions are made and suddenly they remember things that did not happen or they did not see. Which is why I am skeptical of eye witnesses but that is another thing.

But in any case "repressed memories" are generally the patent's imagination run amuck with the "therapist's" warped fantasies.

Researchers and practitioners might disagree; but soap operas swear by repressed memories and amnesiacs.

WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE provide a link to where she says it was a formerly repressed memory?

I have seen this referenced here and another place or two, but I don't see where this started.
